I haven't been following the sales on this site for a while so i'm quite out of the loop when it comes to this sort of stuff. Anyway, I was just wondering when the PS3 will overtake the Xbox 360's worldwide sales because I saw that the gap is now under 2 million and the PS3 is outselling the Xbox 360 on a weekly basis. However, I also know that the Xbox 360 is stronger during the holidays, and that many are speculating that Microsoft will annouce a price cut in Q4.

So VGChartz...when, if ever, will the PS3 overtake the Xbox 360's worldwide sales? I am aware that there are a number of contributing factors which will affect when/if this happens such as price cuts, the arrival of next gen consoles etc., so use this thread to discuss when/whether any of these things happen and the possible implications they will have on shortening/widening the gap.

Current Xbox 360 sales: 67.5m

Current PS3 sales: 65.6m

When the next gen systems come and the 360 stops being supported.

Depends on who stops making their console first.

I think if they release the superslim at a good price it could be this year. Halo 4 will probably boost sales but I doubt the 360 will have a holiday as big as last year.

my bet is end of 2013... right about the same time that the next box and ps4 is launched...

it really depends on what the PS3 super slim will do this holiday season, if MS doesn't cut the price of any of there 360 model, the PS3 has a really good chance catching some serious ground, maybe even passing it in the early months of 2013.

Sony kept the PS2 going when 7th generation was out for several years. So I suspect it'll happen in 8th gen when PS3 is still going

How many of these threads exist? PS3 will probably finish 2nd for this gen consoles. I think it will pass it when Microsoft changes their marketing to Xbox 720.
