There really isn't anyway they can fail in the foreseeable future. The Wii U could be a giant flop but the 3DS isn't, and they've got billions left over from the Wii. It'd probably take 2 of their next consoles to flop (including Wii U) to put them in any serious trouble. And it's gonna be incredibly hard for the Wii U to be a flop. Nintendo isn't gonna sell it at a loss (it'd be very surprising if they do), so even if it did like 40m units it'd still make up for the R&D and other initial investments and make them money.
| Mensrea said: This is a tad off topic, but I'm really sick of people writing pikmin 3 off. Calling it casual, etc. Try to get a casual player to play pikmin, they'll suck, hard. Its a pretty deep RPG that requires precision, patience , and time management. I think it will push systems once word gets out. Pikmin 1 and 2 were stellar games. In my mind they were on the same tier quality wise as WW, and prime 1 and 2. |
Pikmin 1 and 2 sold under 2 million units apiece. Pikmin 3 might do slightly better, being a non-new IP launch title on a console that, by all accounts, will perform better than the GC, but a system-seller it will not be.

That's almost at the end of the article!
Also making comparsions with Wii U and Dreamcast? What?!?! In order for Nintendo to be dreamcasted they will have to produce a saturn. The wii is no saturn. In my opnion I beleive Sony will be the company to get dreamcasted. If this generation made them go from top dog to just another console company next generation will make them irrevelant. However if Wii U (and PS4) online is good and free then X box might be in for a rude awakeing with its paid subscrioption next generation.

I don't think they could fail tbh. If the worst comes to the worst and the Wii U flops and the 3DS's sales slow down, then they can just licence Mario to iOS and Android devices and sit back and watch the money roll in.

My prediction threads:
Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)
Wii U will sell under 7m in 2013 - I was right
My eyes bled after reading that, I'll give him props for what he wrote about what can be the possible outcome, but their is so much off base. Anyone remember the Virtual Boy (I didn't even know about it at the time)? Even after that people just swept it under the rug and Nintendo survived that (at a great cost, Gunpei Yokoi)!
As for Nintendo being too big to fall, No company is too big or prestige to fall! It's just that Nintendo is one of the few companies that plays their cards at the right time with seldom mistakes...
Or they're just freaking bloody lucky! ~_^

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!
While this particular post appears to be from an individual blog site (no advertising, no bylines, no staff listing), it does point to a problem with this form of entertainment -- too many people think "raw power" is the end all and be all for gaming. This despite the fact that the top selling console has never been a vastly superior power console.
It is commonly accepted that Sony and Microsoft will introduce consoles in or around 2013 which are expected to have greater technical specifications that the WiiU. But the Nintendo consoles will have its own advantages (included integrated second-screen, tested motion controls, backward compatibility). So it is shaping up to be another zig vs. zag battle -- but with Nintendo getting the head start this time.
Finally, is it not interesting that when Nintendo decides it must take a loss to move hardware product -- something it generally does not do but that is commonly-accepted behavior for everyone else -- that it is going to fail.

Maybe not in the way that a Wii sports will, but it will sell to Nintendo fans who loved the GameCube yet felt burned by the Wii. It will sell like crazy in japan because pikmin has become pretty big over there. And it will sell to a more gamer oriented audience looking for a RTS. Its probably going to be the best game on the system for a while, so I think it will be a good chance for pikmin to get the sales it deserves.
I doubt gaming companies will be ever too bgi to fail. If anything they are good are avoiding failure.

The key is that such people would likely buy the Wii U anyway.
