It's because the PS3 is not BC anymore while the Wii is and the Wii U will be, so there is no need to keep the Wii going but people need to replace their defunct PS2's if they want to keep playing their old games. So which business strategy is more commendable for the consumer? I just love it when a company screws people over and the fans go "You show em Sony, wooohooo!"

1.) Please explain to me how Sony is screwing over consumers because the PS3 isn't BC.

.2.) Your assertion that PS2's are selling because the PS3 isn't BC is flawed. The PS2 sells primarily in developing nations. Places where the PS3 isn't affordable. So even if the PS3 was BC, the PS2 sales would still be strong in poorer nations, because the PS3 has very little presence there.

1.) It was an exaggeration. They may not exactly screwing people over with this, but it is no doubt less consumer friendly than other competitors handle this situation.

2.) I didn't say that the PS2 selling the way it does is only because of the BC isuue, but it's a factor. I myself have a defunct PS2 in my closet and a wall full of PS2 games. I know I will need to replace this PS2 WITH ANOTHER PS2. This will not be the case if my Wii breaks sometime in the future because there will be an alternative. That is all I'm saying, don't blow this out of proportion here.

@bold and your other posts that say the same thing

You can always ebay or amazon a BC PS3, if it is such a big concern for you.

Those old PS3's are very prone to break and I think those bc PS3's are not produced anymore. So they will exit the market pretty soon or will be very rare collectors items aka no financially nor long term viable option.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Excellent 3DS XL launch in Japan, decent in Europe, so a very good week WW for 3DS. And Ninty was clever to stagger the launch postponing the US one, this will extend the boost length at the expense of maximum peak.
Very good week for PS3, decent for the others, except PSV and DS that had a horrible week.

When does/did the XL launch in America? Will it show up next week?

No, on August 18th only.

^^^I'd rather play those on my PS3 - not a handheld.

I think that's Sony's biggest problem right now because that's the majority opinion.

You'd rather play LBP Vita, CoD Declassified and AC: Liberation, which aren't available for your PS3...on your PS3?

Pretty sure he meant that he would rather play those types of games on the PS3. ...on the PS3.

So basically just every type of games? Platformer, FPS, action/adventure etc. Why does Mario get a free pass in situations like this?

Oh please Pez, don't be facetious.

Games like COD and Assassins Creed were tailor made for the scope provided by a home console.  Mario gets a free pass because the only thing similar throught titles like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Galaxy, and New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the Mario Universe/Mushroom Kingdom likeness. Otherwise they all play much differently..........and sell a hell of a lot more.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

The rest of the games on IGN's upcoming list are not system sellers. Accept maybe Virtue's Last Reward.

Really nice list, Spurge.  You need to add a couple of games here and there if possible (the other PSP Need for Speed game, might be worth linking the CoD on PSP sales as well).

Might be worth making into a new topic: "Predict how well each of these games will do on Vita", linking the data of the past games on the PSP and how many consoles had been sold at the time they were released, how much they boosted it, etc. etc.

There's more stuff coming out than I thought there was.

I just copied and paste what IGN has. Maybe there is something else for 2013 that they missed or just something that they do not have on there. Not sure.

Have you ever made a thread? Would be a great one for you! I already have a back log of threads to make.

Yeah, it was nice integrating the VGChartz numbers as a comparison though.

I have made some threads, they've all been copy and paste articles from blogs or websites though.  Maybe I'll do this later if you don't want to :)

Did you see the sales I put down for LBP? Its track record is that it sells. Not that it is a handheld seller. I will admit that LBP was a system seller for the PS3. For years that is the game that I have heard about the most for the PS3.

So it sold 2m+ on PSP, but this was a port form the PS3 version iirc with no online (the central part of LBP). Now we have a game that is different from the other LBP games but hopefully on par with them. Will I say: "Ugh, I'd rather play this on my PS3"? No...because it is not available on my PS3. That is the point.

Im sorry but did you play LBP PSP? Because you are wrong. It was NOT a port of the PS3 game, which is probably why it did as well as it did. THe game had a completly different campaign, different items different everything. But i agree with whatever else you are saying, you shouldnt waste your time IMHO, it would be the same argument getting nowhere, they will give Mario a pass, because it is Mario and we know he can do no wrong. They say he has a proven track record, well hell, how can you have a track record if you dont even try?? Funny thing is when AC was announced for 3DS intially no one said anything about it not belonging on portable, no one was saying anything about COD on DS either. Imagine that.

@spurgeonryan  its a decent list and I agree, not many system sellers, but so what? Not every game will be one, Isnt it enough that its good. I would buy the orginal games on the list(AC and COD) because i CANT get them anywhere else. Sure you can make the argument that you could play the console counterpart, but why did you buy MK7 then? COuld you not have played the console counterpart

That's not what I meant. Would people not want to play Mario on their console instead of a "pathetic" handheld? Why does Mario sell great on both handhelds and consoles? Because the games are great on both. Now, tell me, does LBP Vita look great or not? Looks amazing to me. AC and CoD sure are interesting and have the possibility of being great and they're not even the same games as the console "counterparts".

I'm biased; I wasn't a fan of the first LBP on the PS3 - I felt anxious and a wave of tedium while trying to play it. I question how well a handheld edition will push Vita.

There is still a stigma that the handheld editions are downports of the console iterations.
