I think it's because of two things
1 - Compared to the previous Marios it felt a little short (maybe).
2 - The hardware did so great, that people expected more from the game.

Great numbers. Mario is gonna sell for a long time too; the first week may be a relatively small percentage of its overall sales and the price was low(er) already (4000 yen). Its the beginning of a decent Nintendo turnaround.

It doesn't matter how good or bad the NSMB2 launch is perceived. I think the DD numbers might be pretty high with being sold in stores and stuff. Also, the game is not very big and it's one of those games you want on your 3DS all the time. But what matters now is that Nintendo just launched another steady source of money for years to come and with the digital option it's almost 100% pure profit.
Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.
We need to know DD sales to really evaluate how Mario and Brain Age performed. From the looks of it, it was a big week for both!

How much did NSMB do on the DS in it's first week - and more importantly, in it's first two days...? Wasn't it something along the lines of 480k? If so, it's not that bad at all.
