Forums - General - Future foods: What will we be eating in 20 years' time?

We're already eating traces of insects in our food, anyways.

Of course if you want to keep predicting the future apocalyptically, feel free to do so. People have been doing it for over three thousand years now, it isn't anything new. Something bad is always about to happen, except it never does, and life goes on.

I'd honestly like to know if there is an intrinsic psychological component on this kind of stuff anyways. As deaths for crimes, diseases, starvation and extreme climate go down worldwide some 90% in the last century, it's the rotten exceptions we love to focus on, and the results of our own stupidity on planning and politics. Maybe apes simply love a crisis.

Well when it is legal to feed cattle bird shit then having some insects in there can't be too bad.

"The United States has not banned the practice of feeding chicken manure to cattle"

"While the FDA was on track to enact a ban on April 27th this has been delayed until at least June 26th and the American beef industry is asking for further delays."

Not sure if the ban ever went into effect.  My guess is probably not knowing the FDA.

i do hope Soylent Green will be avaliabe in the near future, i always wanted to know what it tastes like.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I hope that'd we will be switching to more of a whole food plant based diet. Just because meat is going to go up in price doesn't mean we need to start eating insects. We don't even need to eat meat to survive, in fact animal based food is detrimental to our health, encouraging cancer growth and contributing to a variety of diseases, food-born and otherwise.

There are dozens of protein and iron rich plant foods (complete amino acid foods as well), meat is not an essential part of the human diet. There are two difficult nutrients to obtain from plants, Vitamin B12 which is usually obtained from dairy products can be found in nutritional yeast and seaweeds, and Omega 3 fatty acids ETA and DHA which DHA can be obtained from microalgae and ETA can be more readily converted from ALA by the body and ALA is found in a large variety of seeds and nuts.

I am far more vegan than I was a few years ago and it has been great on my health and for those in my family that are doing the same. We can devote livestock land to agriculture and have plenty of food available. Our diets should contain far less animal products than they currently do and its return to a luxury food will do nothing but benefit the population.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

In 20 years.. we are going to eat tasteless and translucent, semi-viscous gel which will contain all the human nutrients requirements for a day.

In a perfect world....

Yay!!!
