I spent a lot of time with the first one on the DS, so this rushed game is kind of disappointing. 5-6 hours? For a regular gamer like me that will still probably be 10 hours, but that is not enough at all. I think the coin idea is great, but I do not care to help my region win the coin total.
Also I am surprised that they even gave this game 3D. Maybe they had to so that the 3D would still be a good decision, but there seems to be no point. I hope it explodes in sales this Christmas!

No, 5-6 hours sounds right.

I beat it in about 3.5-4 hours. (And I went for a slow approach. ;P ) Now I'm about 7 hours in and have unlocked and played most of the levels. Getting all the coins might take a while, but the game really isn't very long. Even the Star World levels aren't that challenging except the castle maybe.

How is it compared to the others?

I must have played the original DS game at least 150 hours, not kidding.

The amount of times I came back to it is ridiculous. Even to this day. I have 3 perfect files in it - yet I erased them a few times already - and now I play it with two rules - using only the first power-up available on the stage and trying to get all coins possible.

I find it easier than the previus games on DS and Wii.

But fun-wise... I can say I probably had/have as much fun with them like with the others.

I definitely like it more than 3D Land, but that's just my personal preference for 2D platformers.

Did you already test if the 1m coins goal is bound to individual save files or if the coins total is recorded as system data?

I didn't test it before, but I tried it just now.

I created a second save file and my coin total from the other save file was there from the beginning, so I can say that the number of coins is per system and not per save. (Btw, there are 3 save slots.)

Hope that cleared everything up.

You'll still have to play it a lot.
I have basically played all of the levels and still only have about 45,000 coins.

Coin rush is the best way to earn coins (yeah I know, duh). The reason being that at the end the coins for the rush are doubled.

I totally called that NSMB2 will struggle to reach an 80 score. Not because it's bad, but because those so called neutral reviewing sites do anything but review games nowadays. It's all about generating clicks, likes, follows, thumbs up, whatever arbitrary bullshit you can generate in the internet. And what better way is there than to burn a high profile game to get some attention. The whole reviewing system is in the gutter. Giving people an informed oppinion on a game they might be interested in has wandered way down the list these last years. It's all about self marketing or you simply pay those assholes for good scores. I mean, read the fricken summaries on metacritic (but dont give them clicks please):

"At its core, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a Mushroom Kingdom coin -- shiny and addictive, but carrying no practical value whatsoever."
What does that even mean, practical value? It's a fricken game, it's entertainment. Does the newest Batman movie teach you math or make you a better person? Open your beer bottle or cook you a meal?

"Mario's gold-themed adventure is anything but bad, but we can't shake away the deja vu and the word "inflation" whilst playing."
Inflation? We had 1 2D Mario in 2006, 1 in 2009 and now it so happens that Nintendo wants to get their 2D Marios out early in their new systems life cycle, so we have 2 in 2012. I can guaran-damn-ty you there will be no 2D Mario until at least 2015. It's still only 1 2D Mario game per system! How many Call of Dutys are there on the PS360? How many Halos does the 360 have? How many Uncharteds, God of Wars, Resistances on the PS3?

Good games are 70's now, "Perfect but no surprises" means 80/100 for Nintendo, but it's totally legit enough for Call of Duty to deserve a whopping 10/10. Fuck this shit, it's like they don't even try anymore to mask their agendas. I'm just waiting for the inevitable Giantbomb 6/10 now and the obscure 4/10 from a site I never heard about, that wants to get some more hits.

I agree 100% with this! I would like to "Like" it, but that's not possible here. It seems as if reviewrs are complaining about the wrong things. I know a little innovation wouldn't hurt (but then again, they did add that coin collecting stuff, right?) - but they cannot give NSMB2 an 8 cuz it lacks innovation when they give every CoD entry a 9-10; how much innovation is there in that franchise?!

You tell 'em Chandler!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

This is how I pretty much see this game as, minus the extremely challenging gameplay. A mix between Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I liked playing this game, however it was way too challenging. The farest I got was to World 2-1. I think you need to have some kind of cheat code to see a glimpse of World 8.

I had a feeling the reviews would be poor for this game, I could see it slipping below a 70 average which will be shocking for a Mario game.

They've released too many too soon, I fear for the Wii U version if the critics are already fed up with the franchise. They should have made New Super Mario World instead
