Forums - Nintendo Discussion - YE 2012 Prediction: Wii U will sell more in 2012 than the Vita will in its first year, 3DS will push out 9 million during the holidays alone

Even though the Vita sales are pretty dismal right now by December 17th the first anniversary of the Vita in Japan it will have sold over 3 million units. The Wii U will be lucky if it sells over 2 million units in 2012 since it probably will only have a bit more then a month to do so and supplies are always limited during a consoles launch.

I think WiiU will be successful and all but your projections are a little wild even for my taste.

I second OP's prediction that the Wii U's 2012 WW sales will surpass Vita's LTD sales.

Funny how I said the exact same thing in the "PS Vita Projects Being Moved to Wii U" rumor thread the other day when I called out one of the trolls bashing everything Nintendo related, and got banned for it.

not a chance, i think the vita will end the year with 8 million units sold, there is so way the WiiU can reach that.

There is no way that the Vita will end the year with 8 million units sold without a price cut.

maybe its very optimistic but i do think CoD and AC will sell butloads of units. ohh i should mention i mean 8 million units shipped not sold accorind to vgchatz

Those two games may encourage some people to buy a Vita to play them, but the names of those games makes them appear to be spinoffs of Black Ops 2 and AC3, so most people will just get the console version. I doubt either of those games are good enough to get people to pay at least $300 just to play them.

i thought they are gonna do bundles for 270$ with AC and a 4 memory GB card. honestly thats a good deal, also ubisoft and activision seem to have awesome marketing teams im sure they can provide the right marketing to show that they are there own stand alone games

Bundles can help, but if someone doesnt want AC3 Liberation, the bundle doesn't help. Also I think Activision and Ubisift have many much more important games to focus on marketing this fall, like the console versions of BO2 and AC3.

I have no doubt it's probably going to quickly overtake the Vita in sales, but sell more in 2 months than the Vita has in a whole year? No chance.

More like a month and a half which makes it even more impossible.

well if CoD and AC do great numbers on the vita, then ubisoft and activision have a great oppertuinity to reach a new market for there biggest IP's AC and CoD selling buttloads on consoles is a sure thing... its gonna happen no matter what. but now they have an oppertuinity to reach new sales and a new market so i think there gonna give it some good marketing. im not saying they will do console numbers or even be close. but if they make a fan base on the vita to sell 2/3 million copies a game, then thats very good and thats something that both publishers would want.

That may happen.. depending on 3 things... wii u shipment,, wii u launch.. and offcourse if the vita sells more than we ecpect..

But another thing.. Mayby we see 4 nintendo consols (ds,wii, 3ds and wii u) in the top for the hole holliday..
One thing for sure.. wii u and 3ds.. will top the sales chart from that point.. until ms or sony enter next gen..

If you have any money... Bye nintendo shares now..

I think it's fairly likely Nintendo will ship about 5m Wii Us in Nov 2012 to March 2013...which would be 3.5m-4m in Nov-Dec 2012 (3DS was 3.6m in Feb-March 2011). The interesting thing is Wii + Wii U is supposed to be 10.5m for the year...but if they give the original Wii a price cut to $100 I think it can do up to 6.5m this year (say...Q1: 710,000--->Q2: 840,000 (price cut to $100 Oct 1)--->Q3: 4,000,000---> Q4: 625,000).
