Also not really sure how useful the YOY chart will be.

 it must have been two years I believe. I recall using them when I first joined.

Which types of charts? there were some charts introduced for a few months on game pages which showed their sales (the gamrreview section of the website) but there have definately not been any hardware graphs to play with since VGC 2.0 launched in mid 2009. (2.0 was the orange and black design)

Looking at monthly, we can see that GT5 outsold Forza 4 during January '12 and hasn't looked back since. 

forza 4 got a bundle mid june, not sure which areas but i believe many just didn't see the the reason to buy a third forza with the same kind of experience (racing sim) this gen. i bought all of the forza games but only because i love racing sims. if i would be only a"normal" racing sim fan i would maybe own forza 2 and 3 or only 3 and that would be enough for me until the next gen.

And at your other comment... Forza 3 was force bundled for a couple of months though, wheras Forza 4 isn't forced upon new X360 owners.

i meant the time before forza 3 got that huge selling bundle. forza 4 is below forza 3 and i believe it is because there were already 2 forza sims + forza ultimate edition on 360. i believe without forza 3, forza 4 would have sold more. it's not like cod which people play through in one day and can get a new release every year and everyone who bought the game before will also buy that. many who buy such a racing sim did never complete it or even completed 50% of it. those don't feel the need to buy a new one when they did not even play through half of the last one.
