TDK was much better IMO but I did enjoy TDKR

Around the Network

I think the movie was really tightly directed. The plot needed you to follow carefully and you had to fill some of the blanks in your head, but they really weren't that hard to fill at all.

That being said,  Bane is no Joker, that's for sure. I like the story of TDKR a little more than TDK, but TDK had such a compelling villain (and an outstanding portrayal by Ledger) that it pretty much even things up for me.

First of all, I hate that I had to wait 7 days more than the rest of the world. Besides, bloody Imax and sold out tickets, add another 5 days. Rant: off.

After the movie ended, and people were standing up, and leaving the theatre, I just sat there. My friend, my girlfriend and I, just sat there speechless for some minutes. After a while, we broke our silence praising one of the best movies I've ever seen.

It's not perfect, there are some plot-holes, not as many or as bad as some people are implying (if you hate the trilogy, just say it); and the speech of Bane alienate the efforts of many people fighting inequality.

But, the movie as a whole is superb. The script is excellent, the effects are amazing, and the music just add that final touch of greatness.

I almost cried with Alfred's speech in the funeral, and the ending, it was indeed a happy ending, but it fitted.

I don't know, I liked, I really liked it.

I'm not really into superheros, but Nolan's Batman is something else.

Off topic: We also don't cheer in theaters, last year I saw a couple of movies in the US, and I was annoyed by people disturbing my movie! >:(

I downloaded a pretty crappy version of TDKR from the internet to watch while I wait for the DVD to come out.  I skipped right to the Batman vs. Bane fight and then to the ending to see if I could figure out how Batman survived (and I still can't).  Anyway, I could hear the audience in the background cheering during the final moments (and crying during the funeral).  From that crowd reaction, this movie did what it set out to do.  Great stuff.

I don't mind people cheering at the end of the movie, but I do get annoyed if it's in the middle of the movie. When I watch I movie, I pretend there is nothing else but my and the screen. I rate them, depending on how deep I went 'into the screen'. Of course you can't do it with all films, Avengers for example, if you did that you wouldn't be able to grab your popcorn, and that would be a disaster! ;)

Now, about the funeral, :(, that was a very strong scene, and superb acting from Caine. I'm usually not a fan of obvious happy endings, but this one worked.

Edit: Lol at "the plot holes" comment from AbbathTheGrim.

I assume you are talking about the 5 seconds left thing? Well, I just watched it again and it did not show Batman in there while the counter showed 5 seconds. Batman was first shown flying the bat, then we get a cut where the camera is near the city looking out at the ocean and the Bat and then it cuts again to the countdown in the Bat (5 seconds left).

It's on my PC HDD so I watched it two seconds ago.  I'm watching it as I post and giving a play by play, pausing every time I type a bullet point.  It shows:

  • Batman and Catwoman talking about the bomb (2mins left).  Batman says, "No auto-pilot"
  • They kiss.
  • Batman gets into "The Bat".  He tells Gordon the story about "Putting a coat around a young boy's sholders"
  • The Bat takes off.  Gordon has a flashback.
  • The Bat takes off, Batman is inside.  Gotham is clearly shown outside.  Scene cuts to John Blake and the kids on the bus.
  • The bomb is dragging on the ground and actually hits a traffic light.
  • A building is directly in front of Batman.
  • Batman can't get clear of a building.  Presses a button on the flight stick.  There's an explosion.  The kids on the bus all dive.
  • *Batman sighs*  If Batman made any type of escape, it had to be right there.
  • The Bat flies out of the smoke.  One kid yells "That's Batman!"
  • The Bat is fully intact.  No missing cockpit or anything.  Gotham City is visible outside of the window.
  • Kids on the bus look in amazement.  John Blake looks up and breathes a sigh of relief.
  • The Bat flies over a bridge and then over the ocean.
  • The Bat flies into the horizon.  Close up of Blake's face.
  • Batman looks into the camera. Is he....smiling?  A chorus of angels sing.  I can't see Gotham or anything through the windows, though.  In fact, it doesn't show any windows at all.  Just a totally black background.
  • Close up of five seconds on the timer.
  • Close up of Blake's face.
  • Explosion
  • One guy in a control room says "There's a detonation."  A crowd of cops cheer while the Arkham inmates are on their knees, defeated.
  • A guy in a control room says "It's clear of the city."

I downloaded it too just to check and I was certainly right. You forgot a cut between the bolded.

So, it looks like people imagine a plot hole where there is none.

*head explodes*

I don't know what I left out.  How did he escape?

It is not shown, but we did not see Batman in there while there were 5 seconds left at least. Leaves something for the imagination

Well, obviously.  That's why I'm still fighting with my sister and one of my co-workers to this day about whether Batman lived or died.  I can just go to my sister's house and say, "You know Batman died, right?" And she'll say "But they showed him alive at the end."  I'll say "Well, Alfred was dreaming."  She'll respond with "Well who fixed the Bat-Symbol"

And we'll argue like that for a while.  Not a plot hole.  Just a Nolan type ending.  Now that I think of it, I've started that fight with a couple of other people just for the hell of it.   Hell, remember this thread?

Lol, my mother thought Alfred was dreaming too but didnt they say he (bruce wayne) fixed the autopilot?

He fixed it six months ago.  I don't know how having a fixed auto-pilot gets him out of a nuclear explosion, though.  They made a big enough deal about it, mentioning it it three or four times throughout the movie, but still.
