Forums - Nintendo - 3DS touchscreen flickering? Backlight flickering? Vertical flickering lines?

Hey  guys

I was wondering if anyone else has that "problem"?  I occasionally see really fast flickering vertical lines  well not really lines  but i dunno how to describe it. Remings me a bit of water lol.  Its especially visible with darker things on the screen.

Sometimes its there when my 3ds is charging while i play and when i unplug it  the "lines" go away. And right now its the exapt opposite  When the 3ds is unplugged I have the lines and when its charging they are almost not visible.

I was trying to film it  but  my phone is to crappy to focus in film mode (Wave 1)

I bought my 3ds in August and since then I occasionally see this.

Any ideas ? Is this "normal"?   Again this is just happening on the lower screen/ touch screen

thank you

No, it's not normal. It may be due to water damage? Flickering/Lines could be caused by that.

What I really recommend to do is Call Nintendo Support. They will try to tell what's wrong and if they don't know then you send it in and they fix it. Simples!

I do see some shades of the left/right eye's screen with the opposite eye when there is a dark background next to a bright one. It's pretty hard to explain, but let's just say that my 3D effect has had some minor issues since i bought it.

I haven't heard about your problem though.

The 3ds has neither a scratch on any screen  nor on one of its shiny sites. Its prestine condition and never even saw water etc.

The phenomenon is not easy to spot  but "once you see it  you cant unsee it" But again its only the touchscreen    the 3d screen is alright.

Its like the backlight is dimming by  3 or so percent and going back to normal but  with something that looks like   seperate lines of the pixels.  And several lines on the screen at the same time. It also reminds a me a bit of TV scanlines  but without every second line being black     here its more like  1 line is 100% brightness the next is 90% the next is 95% , 98% etc...  and that number is changing for each line like 3 times a second its like   dancing lines of brightness levels.
its on the whole screen.

Its really hard to describe. Sorry

EDIT:
I just checked and it just appears when I have my  brightness level at 3.   ( i didnt try turning power saving ON)

At least I know the backlight on the lower screen is not really damaged  but rather unable to sustain constant brightness levels.

Hmm

It sounds like something is disconnected or possibly too hot. You need to call Nintendo.

I wonder if my 3ds is the only one. Its really obvious when you try to turn off the 3ds then a screen pops up with grey and white lines and the console asks you if you really want to turn off or if you want to go into standby. In this "confirmation screen" on brightness 3 power saving off I see the lines. (I have not tried power saving ON)

Anyone willing to give it a try?

I could understand that happening on the top screen, but it should not happen on the bottom screen.
Contact Nintendo and explain the situation best you can.

I don't have a 3DS yet, but hopefully I don't have this problem when I get the XL

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
