Yeah because the future is to do what tablets have been doing for years now. just that now we can stare at two screen at the same time.
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Then it would be doing what Nintendo has been doing before Tablets even became a thought.
Nintendo will have a hard time once again next gen, 3rd parties wont care about the Console just like the Wii...
Too bad, Nintendo Consoles are allways special..
The Wii U merges the gameplay opportunities of the XBox 360/PS3, Wii, DS/3DS, and Phone/Tablet into one device; and companies that are interested should be able to find gameplay mechanics from one of these devices that will enhance the gameplay in whatever game they're developing. The amount of things developers can think is infinite. If it fails, then I give up on the gaming community - you can have your 'apps' and I'll just stick with the deeper stuff that comprises generations 3-7.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Well said. I feel the same way about Vita and its capabilities. It should be every gamer's wet dream and every developer's go to. The reaction this device is getting from the community makes me want to buy a bunker and play every RPG ever made before I check out the burnt ashes remaining on the surface from this impending demise.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

preach it brother.
Sound effects, soundtrack, art direction, technical polish (no loading, solid framerate, no bugs, etc), gameplay, level design, enemy AI, puzzles, story, character, writing / dialog, voice acting, network / social / multiplayer features, and also graphical production values (high res, dynamic lighting, shadows, bump-mapping, volumetric, and other such technical terms) all improve the experience.
Different things can be more important in that vast list of things that improve the experience depending on the consumer.
What Nintendo is saying poorly is that they believe the graphical barrier is so well invested that push it significantly higher at this point wont yield a proportionally better experience. There is a bigger need to invest in gameplay and innovation to make the experience fresher.
I get and appreciate their philosophy but it also pisses me off when they release something as ugly as Wario Ware when they are capable of producing games that look as beautiful as Mario Galaxy, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, and Zelda to name a few.
I have a love/hate relationship with Nintendo as a long time consumer of their products.

The Vita is a truly exceptional gaming device. It will sell like crazy when Sony figures out some way to produce it cheaper so they can afford to sell it cheaper. People just aren't that able to buy $250 machine that requires another 30-90 bucks for Memory Card and then finally a game that makes that whole expense worth the overall cost and Sony has been unable to produce such a game.

I don't believe that Nintendo is saying it poorly, but rather, some interpret what they're saying poorly. Nintendo never said that the things listed in your first paragraph weren't important or did not improve the experience. What Iwata in fact says is that power isn't ALL important and that wonderful graphics won't help IF the gameplay isn't good, and he's absolutely right about that.
They basically also reference the point of diminishing returns, which is also very important. You could have a console capable of near Avatar-quality graphics, but if it costs $1000+ and the games take 5 years to develop and have to sell 50m+ copies just to break even, the industry will crumble.
I'm not saying that graphics and tech can't feasibly be better than WiiU, even right now, but Nintendo understands how the industry works and is looking to give devs new ways to enhance gameplay ideas... all while remaining in a realistic budget.
