An interactive movie needs at least an interesting story and lovable characters. This story presentation and acting is on the level of The Walking Dead TV-series, which I admit is impressive coming from a game developer, but it's sadly also more pretentious and without lovable characters. I hate that kid already and I dislike the man too and I feel no connection whatsoever.

Now Rockstar and John Marston on the other hand...

It's almost comical to see gamers go wild over a clip that looks like a regular TV-show.

A regular TV-show with great production values, above-average acting and superb art-direction, imo. After seeing gameplay and interviews with ND devs, it's a huge stretch to call this an "interactive movie." It has RPG elements, some interesting shooting/melee mechanics and AI, this is on top of what's in U3, which has platforming and some surprisingly complex melee combat.  More open environments than what's seen in Uncharted (though what we saw wasn't, so we can only take this on faith). What qualifies it as an "interactive movie"?

You got to give the characters a chance especially since you don't know how the game is going to be and how the characters develop over time. You pretty much are writing off the characters with couple of minutes of gameplay and footage. I didn't get red dead until it was in the bargain bin six months after release and I could careless about John Marston until the very end when you start to feel for the character. It wasn't until 20 hours into the game that I started to like the guy.

The way you feel about Oblivion is the way many feel about a title like this (and many disagree with both opinions). Still, just because you feel nothing for these characters doesn't mean that's the consensus (which judging from the majority of internet chatter, it disagrees with you entirely). Frankly, I wasn't that impacted by John Marston, but that doesn't mean he was a fogettable character.

Seems like whenever you comment on these types of games, you sound more bitter than objective.

Yeah I am bitter because my fellow gamers are eating crap when they could eat milk and honey.

Objectively speaking, John Marston slays these characters. I truly do not believe people actually feel a yota for these two, they just pretend they do because they want so badly to have another great Sony game.

The biggest reason you hear all praise on the internet for Ellie and this game is because it's a Sony exclusive. That's not objective.

You have a point, but my point is a reaction on the reactions. People react on this simple 3 minute clip as if it's something special, as if the story and characters are interesting. They are not. Like you say, obviously we can give them a chance later on when we know more, and also let them grow, as we do with any movie. I am just ,don't say something is there when it's not there.

Most people like John Marston a lot though, but yes, there is a niche of people who feel indifferent towards him. Speaking of lovable characters I could have used Nathan Drake instead. While I dislike Uncharted as a game, it's very clear that Nathan Drake is an extremely lovable character.

Are you serious? You really think people don't genuinely like Nathan Drake or Sully for example? You're actually deluded if you think that.

I'm not sold on Ellie yet, but Joel sounds very compelling to me. Why does John Marston "slay these characters"?

Correction: They are not to you. And that's fine, but you can't speak on behalf of everyone else.

I didn't say that. Because Sony fans praise everything from Sony doesn't mean that they can't genuinely like some things. Nathan Drake, Sully and the women in Uncharted are genuinly likable, top quality characters.

With other products, when the quality isn't right there, Sony fans praise it anyway. And it's that phenomenon that I hate. It's called fanboyism.

who determines that the quality isn't there?

i'd have to assume its you... and if thats true does that mean that you're calling anyone who doesn't agree with your views on games a fanboy?

oh wait sorry i forgot you basically said that here

"Yeah I am bitter because my fellow gamers are eating crap when they could eat milk and honey"

"Objectively speaking"

coming from you thats hilarious as all i i've ever seen you do on threads associated with games you don't like is shove your own opinion down other people's throats

A critic of any culture or art typically tries to speak his opinion on behalf of more than just himself.

The poop that came out of my dog today is objectively not beautiful to watch or nice to smell.

The Hansons and Justin Bieber are garbage artists no matter how many young, ignorant girls out there happen to listen to them. And I speak on behalf of more than just myself.

No. Re-read and come back.
