Slimebeast said: An interactive movie needs at least an interesting story and lovable characters. This story presentation and acting is on the level of The Walking Dead TV-series, which I admit is impressive coming from a game developer, but it's sadly also more pretentious and without lovable characters. I hate that kid already and I dislike the man too and I feel no connection whatsoever. Now Rockstar and John Marston on the other hand... It's almost comical to see gamers go wild over a clip that looks like a regular TV-show. |
You got to give the characters a chance especially since you don't know how the game is going to be and how the characters develop over time. You pretty much are writing off the characters with couple of minutes of gameplay and footage. I didn't get red dead until it was in the bargain bin six months after release and I could careless about John Marston until the very end when you start to feel for the character. It wasn't until 20 hours into the game that I started to like the guy.

You have a point, but my point is a reaction on the reactions. People react on this simple 3 minute clip as if it's something special, as if the story and characters are interesting. They are not. Like you say, obviously we can give them a chance later on when we know more, and also let them grow, as we do with any movie. I am just ,don't say something is there when it's not there.
Most people like John Marston a lot though, but yes, there is a niche of people who feel indifferent towards him. Speaking of lovable characters I could have used Nathan Drake instead. While I dislike Uncharted as a game, it's very clear that Nathan Drake is an extremely lovable character.
