Oh. But I think the animations looked quite good even for a CG cartoon, or at least good enough for a video game.

However I personally never dreamt of a Toy story style game (but I've dreamt of Bug's Life style graphics). I don't like this graphics style at all. But the gameplay definitely sounds interesting.

Ever hear of a Nick cartoon called Fanboy and Chum Chum? The art style in that show isn't so far removed from the art style of Fortnite. But the key difference is the animation quality (you can argue that the show is aweful, but that's not my point, btw).

The animations in Fanboy and Chum Chum look like it fits the overall athestics of the show, and doesn't look out of place when watching it. Fortnite has graphics that are pretty dang close to the show, but the animations are no where near that quality. In fact, they look out of place compared to the rest of the athestics . Yes, the animations themselves are passable for a current-gen game. However, with graphics that have received the leap that they did, you'd think that the animation would receive similar treatment. Yet, that doesn't appear to be the case.

The light and shadows is so much better in the UE4 version, but it's a bit hard to say other than that as they have made a lot of other changes to the scene.

Honestly I don't see it. There's a difference in style but I can't see the one being better quality than the other. The Epic game seemed to have more realistic animation while the cartoon show had more jerky cartoonish style animations.

If you are good at judging animation I trust your opinion about the quality though.

Maybe they picked a bad comparison (who made this awful comparison? You would think it was by an Unreal engine hater rather than Epic showcasing their new stuff) but there's essentially no difference in any aspect of the graphics. Both look current then, just with one having HDR lighting off and the other one on.

Yeah the upper one has blurry and the bottom one has sharper shadows but we have that difference in current gen already. With next gen lighting you expect shadow blending and different shades or strength in shadows.

I don't doubt the differences between UE3 and UE4 exist, because the UE4 demo looked fabulous, but they are just not seen in this comparison.

meh, Its by epic, I have no hype for Epic games, it has 90% change of being that mediocre overrated game that everyone buys, and then complain about a week later.

I call BS. If Epic wanted to they could have made it look nearly the same in UE3. Look at Star Wars 1313 and the Samaritan tech demo of last year. Both are using Unreal Engine 3 so I see no reason why it couldn't be close. The draw distance is even cut short. If anything, that screen shot is what it might've looked like on a PS360.

I'd say that this is just a means for Epic to say that Unreal Engine 4 is better than Unreal Engine 3. We know that Unreal Engine 4 is better, but they did a poor job of showing it this time.

It's possible that you're right and I'm wrong. I watched the trailer again and maybe I was jumping to conclusions too soon. I'll take back what I said and wait until some gameplay is released before I make a final judgement.
