what's the comment about santa monica about? :S

Ascension is the 6th(?) GoW and looks just like every other GoW.

How is that a bad thing ? I don't mind since its the gameplay I like with different enemies and different places to visit.

And FYI, there are, and have been subtle changes over the course of the 6 games. It just isn't obvious enough at first glance.

I've noticed quite a few changes in Ascension that people do not notice easily.

every sequel to every game has subtle changes. When you are on your 6th installment subtle change's are not enough.

Maybe not for you. But they're good enough for me. Seriously though, do you even like the series ? I thought you disliked it.

What does liking/caring for the series have to with anything. You dont have to like the series to notice notice the mold growing. Do you have to play Dynasty Warriors to realize that game design has been beat  to death?

When your core gameplay works everytime, subtle changes are enough. Besides, it has multiplayer. Whether or not its cliche doesn't matter. It's new to the God of War series. So using your logic, its a big enough change.

@ Jay

Multiplayer is not game design feature. It does not advance anything. Its built of the core design of the game but tailored to include multiple characters. It definitely enhances what already there but does not take it anywhere.

No one's played the multiplayer so no one knows. It could have some modes drastically diffeent from previous God of War titles. We don't know much about it yet. And if multiplayer isn't a game design feature, then simply changing the character like you isn't a game design feature either. mentioned isn't either.

What do you think is best for SSM to do? Make it into a FPS? I don't know about you, but the vast majority won't want the core changed. It might as well be a new series if they changed the core.

Dont let the industry trick you. game design is not graphics, story, Multiplayer. Its about how you play the game. If what you are adding does not change how game is played its not game mechanics..

Would've preferred a Batman Beyond inspired Batman game to this.

You only responded to part of my post. For the sake of argument, let's assume multiplayer isn't a game design change. If thats the case, why did you suggest changing the character when you said "give Kratos a rest"? Surely changing the character doesn't change the gameplay either.

And then I asked what do you think is the best to do? Change the core? Why would they do that? The core of a game is what establishes fanbases. Change the core and you drastically change the gameplay. At which point, you might as well be developing a different game.

You don't change the core when its proven to be extremely successful, both critically and financially.

Not necessarily true. Core game design can vary, RE and FF being good examples. GoW can still be action game, Hell it blend action with a different to help add new mechanics. Metroid: Other M is good example of keeping the core but also delivering a fresh fresh oil change to how the game is played.

if you just go by appearence yes. They are trying quite a few new things with the game from what we have seen already. This isn't even being 'creative' ..they are just using a different already existing comic book line.

Like what? They added Multiplayer, the most cliche thing to do nowadays. When a game goes beyond the trilogy mark it must take steps to refresh to formula. Ascension has the same character( its time to retire Kratos), Same setting...it just time for something new. I can promise Ascension will be the last GoW that wont face backlash for being more of the same.

Did you see the multiplayer and read the details? It's a very well made MP that is more comparable to power stone games. MP is a huge risk for this franchise...something people will be very skeptical about but they took the risk anyways. doing prolgues is also a cliche thing you know...

so has batman changed? GoW IS about Kratos.....his personality may change but at least for now you can't blame them for keeping one of the most iconic characters in the history of PS. also their last game is the highest selling hack and slash in the history of gaming. The only way they can have a new character is a reboot or a retake on the whole game (which isn't what this batman game will be doing either..it's just a new setting)...and if that happens it will happen during ps4 not ps3.GOD:A is not the same setting either >_>

They changed combat, added time freezing for combat AND movement...new enemies. That's all we know for now and we will learn more with time as well. Going back to another comic book series with the same hero is NOT a risk at all...not even close to adding MP for GOW

Time freezing? ok

MP is not a step or forward or back.  As long as the main story is good ppl will ignore shitty multiplayers in a series not known for it as opposed to CoD where its the main attration.

You keep comparing GoW to Batman, but Batman has evolved. Batman games have been developed since the 80's and has had multiple game design mechanics with metroid Batman being the current which hasnt even seen a 3rd installment.  Go has 6 installments in 7 years and remain more of the same,.

yeah freezing...the gameplay demo showed it being used for combat 'and' puzzles/movement.

MP is a risk and a challenge...I can't think of a hack and slash game that has done multiplayer right. Ninja gaiden mp is a joke. This mp however, already have shown a lot of depth. whther it's a step forward remains to be seen until the product actually releases and we get to play it. If it's done right it's a step forward, just like with Uncharted

Didn't know Rocksteady made batman games since the 80's...oh wait that's not even related to this discussion. We are talking about this current batman series. You honestly shouldn't throw around the term 'more of the same' so much without actually using it when it's applicable...i honestly feel you are just biased against god of war games in general. Have you played all gow games? Do you enjoy them? Because if you did you will easily notice the changes they made

oh and look up gow multiplayer info/gameplay. It's very impressive...
