If my English understanding is right, then 'catching up' means one already have done something and the other is following him in the same path to 'catch him'. Sony now owns Gaikai, what does Microsoft has? Who is playing catch up in reality?

MS allready has the infrastructure. They just didnt reveal anything to us. Time isnt right yet.

Sony had to blow 380 million just to be on the same level as MS. Thing is Sony shouldnt be spending right now either.

They spent money with their cash reserves and they have been investing a lot recently and all investments are considered to be good investments going into the future.

TO play catch up there should be something for sony to catch up to..there really isn't anything other than this PR. That's not playing catch up at all. Unless you have some form of info on the matter that is. Gaikai and Onlive are already operational businesses/tech. The one that is still not operational is the one playing catch up by definition. Guess who that is

Sony should be building their reserves about now....but I digress.

A corporation doesnt have to reveal its plans just because we want to. We aren't even investors and even they get left in the dark until the corporation sees fit to announce something. If you think MS has nothing in the cloud department you got another thing coming...and they didnt blow 380 much needed millions to get it.

Nope a company that needs to turn things around do so by investing. And their recent investments have been solid all around. A recovery is not a short term process but it's also not without investments such as this.

You are missing the point here. They are claiming sony is playing catch up to something no one knows about lol. That by definition makes no sense. Sony have had some work in the 'cloud' before too you know.

And please, as all analysts have pointed out this was a really good price for what they got. If you think for MS to build up to something similar to Gaikai does not cost them anywhere near that amount, you are deluding yourself.

At the end of the day you are arguing against facts, with PR with nothing to show for it. The one catching up is ms ;) It's not a bad thing, but that's just how it is.

MS has done alot of work in cloud service. The claims that sony is playing catch up is true. MS has various patents for cloud services and already sells said cloud services to other companies and governments. Sony has not.

Again I don't get what you guys are going on about.

Patents? Really? You do realize ALL companies have a huge amount of patents right? Have you gone through sony patents to confirm they do not? I assure you they will as well

Sony have brought cloud to gaming as well. Correct me if I'm wrong but they were the first to bring it to consoles. They already use it in their other services and devices. But by definition to 'catch up' there should be something material to catch up to. MS has shown nothing comparable to Gaikai. Sony now have Gaikai's tech and all their assets with this investment. Fact of the matter is you and sales both are using things that have yet to be shown as justification for this statement, which is nonsesense.

No of course MS built it for free, with their free slave labour. It probably cost them absolutely nothing to develop this phantom streaming service.

Seriously, the reason Sony probably made the Gaikai investment was because they probably felt it might actually cost them more to build a system like this from the ground up themselves. Not to mention they could end up being seriously behind the trend by the time they were finished and brought their own service to market. That is why some are considering this a good investment, Sony get all the resources and the experience that Gaikai bring to the industry and immediately have a foot in the door with some proven tech.

I might sound like a fanboy but let me compare just one more time , I'll ask myself What did I get most of my game time on this year out of the network services?

Steam

Steam : I got mods for skyrim, lots and lots of them , I got Free online, I got ridiculous sales, I got a huge backlog of old classics, I got possibly all my gaming needs on that service, and then some more, hell I even use it as a voice chat program because my friends got so attached to it, they forget to log into Skype . so I just chat to them while they're playing

things that I got that I do not care about : I got Achievements,

things that I got that I hated : None

What about PSN?

PSN : I got PS Plus , I got the free games on that, I got even more free ones because of E3, I got Free online , I got no adverts. I got sales, lots of them, I got PS1 Classics that I can play on my handhelds any time

Things that I got that I don't care about : Home, TV on Demand apps, Music unlimited App and the other multimedia apps that I cannot use because I don't live in america

Things that I hated : Firmwares.... Firmwares EVERYWHERE , Can't chat with people when I am outside the game (ala no party chat) except on Vita, which I do not own yet.

What about XBL?

I got .... uh......Chat?.... I guess?...

Things that I got that I do not care about : Netflix/HULU/MLB/NFL and every single non gaming related app that microsoft is throwing at us (which sony is doing the same) and I can't use... or better yet I DONT bother using any of these services because I don't live in america and I do NOT want to listen to Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga and be retarded, I just want to play my freaking games, oh and I get to dress up my avatar for real money! hoooho! how exciting!

oh yeah and I can make a beaten to death joke about an arrow to the knee! ... of course FOR A PRICE!

http://kotaku.com/5917828/finally-your-xbox-live-avatar-can-take-an-official-skyrim-arrow-to-the-knee

Haha Cake is a Lie , Spaaaaaaace, All our base are belong to us, So faannyyy mann! , (Ironically Rustle my jimmy is also a meme )

Things I HATED : Pay, Pay, Pay , PAY PAY PAY , everything you do in XBL you need to pay, pay for online, pay for subscribtions (which again I DONT USE) , And even after all this bullshit , you get adverts of american products and stuff like Jersey Shore and T-Pain and justin beiber that really rustle my jimmies , Why the hell do I care about all this bullshit? , I bought a GAMING console , not a "'mericah culture propaganda machine"

what about Nintendo Ware?

What I got : Eshop, Love the EShop, its awesome, lots of good games on there, Demos , Fun apps, Nintendo is going the right direction here, and I love it, can't wait to see what they do with WiiU

What I got that I do not care about : Nintendo video, Its retarded, and bloody useless, also the fact that I do not live in America render it useless, but even when I was in boston , It was pretty retarded and useless, why do I want to watch a video of monkeys jumping around and a music video of some hipster band?

What I Hated : WiiWare is just abandoned completely, In a classic "Nintendo abandoning their fanbase" way, like they always do whenever they release something new.

So with all that said , which one is playing catch up to who? I say PSN is catching up to Steam , they just need to lower their prices a bit, and KEEP the fact that PSN is open service and that PSN + Steam + Android is possible if developers want to (which I think Cross play platform is the way to go) , and seeing the recent nintendo confrence , I say Nintendo is doing the exact thing, which is a good thing

So to say Sony is catching up to microsoft is just retarded, I say Microsoft is living in the ancient times where online is a pricey deal. and handeling servers is OH SO STRAINING TO A HUGE company like Microsoft, while indie developers already having more online players FOR FREE without complaining, this isn't 1997 , I and every single person on the planet with a computer can run a server FOR FREE and use it to millions of people without adverts as well.

Did you go to the link i posted. MS has sold their cloud services to other companies, to regualr consumers, and to governments. Until sony can offer their clouds services in that way they are playing catch up. They bought Gaikai to cath up, you just mentioned it as a way they are ahead of ms, had they not bought Gaikai they could not have used it to catch up like they did. Hence them using Gaikai to catch up. I agree MS does not offer streaming of games, but neither does sony, gaikai offers streaming of demos. MS has infrastructure for cloud services and currently sell cloud services. Does sony do that? did they do that before they bought gaikai? Cathcing up for sony is not in the console space but in cloud computing in general. I am not trying to knock sony here, it appears they may the first to bring streaming games to consoles, but that doesn't mean they dont have a lot to do to cathc up to ms as far as cloud services go.

SONY: "We have just purchased Gaikai and now have a pathway into the world of digital streaming for Video games all done through the Cloud across a multitude of Gaikai enabled devices. With this deal we already have possible gateways into this field via Samsung and LG TV sets".

Microsoft: "We have nothing to show anyone, but we did it first, we had the digital streaming over the Cloud first. Like I said, we can't prove it, but I sit here today and say that Sony is playing catch up to us right now in this field."

I'll just file this one away under "Damage Control".

Hey MS, pics or it didn't happen.

That's the point I was trying to make. When Sony (fans) say the same thing about Move and PSEye, they get laughed at but MS is saying it about cloud, everyone buys it as fact.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

You see you are spreading your focus all over the place now. Sony does have cloud based services so I'm sure they have infrastructure as well.

Fact of the matter is this whole situation is about Gaikai yes? What does Gaikai do? Have MS shown anything similar to that so far? Answer is No. It doesn't matter if MS have cloud services for fisherman in alaska, the topic at hand is about Gaming. To say sony is catching up with this perticular investment, then MS should have something before this to show for, that compares to what Gaikai is doing. They do not. Sony do not care about all areas of cloud, they are not MS and hence their business focuses are different. That is why you should stop taking this PR about MS and cloud in other industries and focus on the investment at hand. It's like saying Nintendo is playing catch up to touch screen with the DS or something because MS had touch screen patents and whatnot beforehand.
