Thanks for supporting my point. |
i been saying this since i first posted on here. in other aspects of the game the franshis barely evolved, actually in some aspects it didnt evolve at all. and thats why a lot of people hate what nintendo did with the franshise

So much that Pikmin 3 is regarded as more of a must-have Wii U launch title than NSMBU. The vast majority of Mario haters are people who dislike or despise Nintendo and want to see Nintendo fail or gone. It's really not hard to notice. |
You nailed it.
I'll add that 2 Mario Galaxy games, 1 NSMB, 1 Paper Mario, and 1 Mario Kart game coming out for the Wii is not good justification for saying "too many Mario games", because there's clear diversification here with Mario, while a certain other company releases 10 versions of the same Call of Duty game on Xbox 360 alone; and the Mario critics seem to be thrilled with that.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
People hate Mario because they don't have his games on their consoles. You can see the reaction to Modnation Racers, Playstation all stars or little big planet, Mario-esque games hailed on Sony platforms by their users. They would love to have Mario games on their consoles, because they now that Mario games are almost always great, but they wouldn't tell you it.
1. Because the games are childish.
2. Because theres an over abundance of them.
3. Because every one involves the same type of repetition of saving the same princess from the same villain game after game.

Why does this matter for 1-3 Mario games a console; which actually evolve in game mechanics, but not the more than yearly reprints of games like Call of Duty and all of its clones which show little to no evolution from title to title?

Call of Duty has one game a year which are similar to previous games in the series that are a couple years old.
Mario has several games a year and they are still repeating the same stuff they have for decades, it ain't even remotley comparable, but of course nowadays its the cool thing to hate on Call of Duty.
1. You make it sound like childish things are bad
2. there arent too many games/genres that there arent an over abundance of (im looking at you FPS)
3. again I can just swap out the word princess in your sentence and its true for most every genre
People dont hate mario. They just dont really know him that well.
| zippy said: Does it matter that Mario features in a variety of games and genres? Im a massive Mario fan but i pick and choose which of the Mario games i want to play. For instance the obvious is the 3D Mario games like galaxy and sunshine, then Mario Kart and tennis. But i would steer clear of something like Mario baseball as that sport holds no appeal to me whatsoever. Mario is great, but i wouldnt purchase every game Mario features in just because his name is on the cover. But then there are people who would rather play the 2D games over the 3D ones, my point is, every angle is covered so there is something for everyone. |
This and this again. I don't think Nintendo makes these games seriously expecting people to play every single game that features Mario. Nintendo makes these games for a range of different audiences, even on different sytems, and I would imagine that most people will play a selection of, rather than all, these games. The only difference between Nintendo, Sony and MS in this regard is that the latter two simply don't have a Mario. They would kill for a mascot like Mario and they would be doing exactly as Nintendo does if they possibly could simply because it makes good busines sense.
I get a very strong impression that the people that complain about 'too much Mario' are often people that don't actually play any Mario. People that are smart enough to realise that Nintendo, for the most part, produce extremely high quality games but would be more confortable if they produced something that they don't feel embarrassed to admit they want to play.
I have no problem with people saying they don't like a particular Mario game/s but saying 'I don't like Mario games' (if this is supposed to encompass the 2D, 3D, Kart, Paper, Sports and Party games) more often than not comes off sounding like insecurity. Furthermore it seems to highlight a complete lack of understanding that they are entirely different games/genres where the familiar face on the front cover is simply a marketing ploy designed to appeal to the masses, not fool the self-proclaimed 'hardcore' into thinking they are the same game.
