I said mature gameplay wise, not story or violence. As in not doing QTE and cutscenes every 5 mins. I play COD and Mass Effect. Hell Mass Effect is one of my favourite series, but Nintendo games are all about gameplay, which id the most important element of a game surely?

Mature Gameplay Wise? So you are either saying all the other games are kiddie in terms of gameplay or garbage?

I didnt know gameplay could be categorized under whether its mature or not, always thought it was the content.

I guess Tetris is the most mature game out there. Damn, mind blown.

I never said all other games had kiddie gameplay. It just f**** me off when everyone says Nintendo is for kids because they choose not to include guns and violence.

Nintendo's games are mostly targeting at a younger audience, its appealing to new and younger games, its pretty obvious so its no wonder its seen as kiddie, even though technically it is "For All ages" since E means Everyone.

But saying that its gameplay is more mature than the games you listed, you really cant say that since gameplay cant really be categorized as mature or not, only the content within the game can as you and that other guy said (storyline, etc).

I'll admit I shouldn't of wrote ''mature gameplay'', you can't really define mature gameplay lol, my mistake.

PS3 and 360 both have games that qualify as "kiddy" by their standards. The fact that a nintendo console has one shouldn't be a reason not to get one. The number of these games, however, are more numerous on a nintendo console, but "kiddy" games are easily just as enjoyable as "mature" games. The Wii U is trying to get those "mature" games onto the console, but from what I see some people think "mature" also means "best graphics ever" or something because people are bashing the Wii U for not showing graphics that vastly exceed the PS3 and 360. Of course, this is slightly off topic, but I'm pretty sure that this is where it was going to go in the end anyway.

don't even really know why i didn't buy a wii but i believe the resolution was too low for me (i sit very close to my big tv because i want to have that huge screen feeling) and maybe the lack of enough third party games i was interested in and the online features which aren't comparable with 360 if i'm not wrong. i bought a 360 at release and a ps3 later when it was pretty cheap for a week on german amazon especially to have a blu-ray player and play the exclusives but without the blu-ray i would have maybe never bought the ps3 and a wii instead.  i never felt to own all three consoles this gen but i'm pretty sure i will buy all three next gen because yeah, there are always a few things you miss if you don't own all consoles (i would have loved to own the mario galaxy games, zelda, pikmin (is pikmin even on wii?) and few more.)

- State of the art hardware, software and features.
- More "mature" and story focused games.
- No "innovative" features or hardware that I'll probably just find awkward to use.
- More quality and innovation in their first party titles.
- More 3rd party support, especially from Japanese devs.

Hey guys. So I've been having a really interesting discussion with S.T.A.G.E. in the "Nintendo seems to not be able to please its fans" thread. It came to the topic of what makes gamers in the general gamer crowd uninterested in Nintendo's platform.

My question for you guys is as follows. Which of the following criteria are required for your to purchase a Nintendo console?

  1. All of Nintendo usual IPs like Mario, Zelda, Starfox and Metroid should be made with older gamers in mind.
  2. 3D Mario, 3D Zelda and 3D Metroid need to be marketed to older gamers.
  3. No more kiddie games need to come out on the system: 2D kirby, 2D Mario
  4. No more quirky IPs need to release on the platform: example Pikmin
  5. All top 3rd party multiplats need to be on the system.
  6. Needs to have 3rd party exclusives that rival assassin's creed and Batman
  7. Shouldn't release with non-proven games like Red Steel and ZombiU, which use non-traditional game mechanics
  8. Needs new Nintendo IPs that appeal to the older crowd, preferably but not limited to FPS.
  9. Needs Nintendo-made jRPGs that can rival Tales or Final Fantasy games.
  10. Needs Nintendo-made WRPGs that can rival the likes of Skyrim
  11. Needs exclusive j and W RPGs made by 3rd parties that rival Skyrim and FF.
  12. Needs a traditional controller
  13. Does not have any shovelware
  14. Has no Nintendo-made games that use waggle controls or "gimmicks", or that appeal to a younger crowd.

I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts. And Nintendo fans, please let them express themselves without taking insult, this thread is about their honest opinions, something fans and Nintendo as a company should have been aware of a long time ago.

Thanks for sharing

I've highlighted the important ones in bold. The most important of all is exclusives - both first and third party. Exclusives sell consoles at the end of the day, although for PS3 and 360 owners I'd say that third party exclusives would influence that crowd more.

Both WRPGs and JRPGs are going to be a much better experience on the U thanks to the touchscreen, FIFA, Madden and Tiger Woods will all benefit from the GamePad and ZombiU is going to be a system seller that will appeal to the PS3 and 360 crowd. I've seen a few people on various forums saying that they're considering to only own one console this gen, and split their gaming between the U and their PC. Certainly going to be interesting to see how well the U will sell, particularly when you consider that the U will more than likely be around £100 or more cheaper than a PS4 and 720.

Most nintendo games aren't kiddy, for example I'm willing to bet most people who buy zelda titles are fairly old people, hence why the game isn't a megaseller, but sells around the same as big exclusives from other consoles. 2d mario on the hand is the definition of a kiddy game. Very easy gameplay, No confusing mechanics. Anyone can just pick up a 2d mario game and play it.

As for what would make me a buy another nintendo console. Option to play all games without motion control and thats it. I love many of the franchises like pikmen, zelda, 3d mario, and metroid. But I hated wii's motion controls.

Prettier skyboxes, duh.

To be honest, I'm a bit annoyed that "hardcore" is seen as that.  I don't exactly see what's so hardcore about playing games like that.  Amnesia must be pretty hardcore, then?  At least in the whole "there's a lot of realistic graphics and gore"
