Forums - Movies & TV - Looks Like I was right about Pixar's Brave, Critics think it's Meh as well

Looks better then Cars 2 and reviews are much better then that movie also. But I'm guessing that the best animation Oscar will go to another movie besides Brave even though so far its the best reviewed animated movie that has been released in 2012.

Second lowest rating ever for a pixar movie, with the obvious cars 2 at first. Lets hope Monsters inc does better, I fell like they haven't used their creative juices in a while, or if disney took all their creative juices away

What do you mean "meh"? This is the consensus summary RT put up "It may not live up to the lofty standards of the Pixar brand, but Brave offers young audiences and fairy tale fans a rousing, funny fantasy adventure with a distaff twist -- and surprising depth."

"rousing" "funny" "with a... twist" "surprising depth" are not words and phrases you ascribe to a meh movie. I'm picking it will be way better than Cars 2 and a 74%, 6.8/10 average is far from meh in the rotten tomatoes scheme of things.

Based on RT score this is a very good movie, just not one of the greats.

Gnomeo and Juliet was better than Cars 2, so that is not saying much.

In overall reviews Cars 2 actually has a slight edge over Gnomeo and Juliet.  But I get what your saying pretty much almost everything Pixar could have come up with for their next movie would have been better then Cars 2.

No movie ever is going to beat Wall-e.

Of the remaining animated movies released this year Wreck-It Ralph looks the most intriguing.

Well, I just saw Brave and that movie was fantastic! It wasn't what I was led to believe it was at all. The ads show some tomboy girl trying to avoid getting married by winning an archery tournament. It's much more than that. Pixar still has it. I wonder if some of these critics are just trying to get attention by being extra harsh. The theater that I saw it in just now had people applauding at the end.

As far as computer animated films go, I'd say the only non-Pixar films that are on Brave's level are How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda 1, Kung Fu Panda 2, Rango, and maybe Shrek 2 (if I remember correctly--I did enjoy it at the time but I need to see how well it has held up.  It had a lot of humor that was just for that period.)

Will watch this anyway, I was dissapointed by Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 but for the rest they've done extremely well,  and I'm definitely looking forward to Monsters University!

The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, UP, Monster's Inc., Toy Story , Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Wall-E, Cars, Cars 2, A Bug's Life, Brave, Ratatouille, Brave

Just listing the movies so I can make a list of them in order of my favorites to least favorite.

1. The Incredibles (I'm a major comic book geek so this one really appealed to me)
2. Toy Story 3 (I swear, I wasn't crying!)
3. Toy Story 2 --a great sequel handled with lots of feeling. Made me feel like a kid again.
4. UP--I only watched it once. It got a bit formulaic from the middle on but the beginning still stays with me.
5. Finding Nemo -Hit me at just the right time. Probably my most watched of the bunch.
6. Toy Story --I don't remember this as fondly as many. Don't know why. Animation was great at the time and I bought the SNES game.
7. Wall-E -Another that had an amazing beginning before delving into familiar territory
8. Brave--It's pretty new but I was truly impressed by it. Great film.
9. Monsters Inc. --It didn't make me think but it was enjoyable
10. Cars --some hate it. Some love it. I loved it. The premise was horrible but they made it work. It was a fun movie.
11. Ratatouille--I had no expectations for this film. When I was done, I bought the game!
12. A Bug's Life--In my opinion, the definition of predictable. It had its charm, though. Hopper is awesome!
13. Cars 2-Absolute garbage.

I personally feel pixar became bad about 11 years ago lol.

Bugs life? Yup good. All 3 Toy Stories? Great. Monsters Inc.? Good.

Everything else? Ranges from meh i.e.Finding Nemo to utterly dreadful and should have been direct to video i.e.Cars, Ratatouille(He's a rat but he can cook and wants to be a chef!!!!). I honestly think Cars is one of the worst mainstream movies ever made. I don't think I have ever seen any movie where every single aspect of it is so blatantly trying to sell merchandise. Where the story and world the movie is set in have been given zero thought at all and instead all of it devoted to selling toy cars.

Film critics are as ridiculously pro pixar as tech critics are pro apple though. If half their movies simply changed the studio name the reviews would be far less positive. Seriously cars is 74% positive? Ratatouille 94%? Both were nominated for best animated feature?! It seems like they get an utterly comical amount of leeway based purely on their name and the fact their movies have good cgi.

High hopes for Monsters University though. They managed to make Toy Story 3 good and that was a sequel to their earlier movies so I'm hoping the same happens with MU.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

The best animated movie next year should be Despical Me 2.  The one that will probably be one of the worst and still make the most money will be The Smurfs 2.  Monsters University will fall somewhere in the middle.  Dreamworks has two films based on new IP coming out The Croods and Turbo and one film based on a old cartoon Mister Peabody and Sherman.
