The Wii's Virtual Console is probably the best version, as the GBA one had gimped music.  900 points is a steal for one of, if not the, best RPG ever made.

 

by the way, my first non-Pokemon RPG was FFIII DS.  It was a baptism of fire, but I loved it and I've played all the other mainline games and a lot of the JRPG genre.

If you're lucky enough they might put the PSX versions on sale again.  Got Final Fantasy 1-9 minus 3 on that fire sale.  Or if you have a PS3 up and running you can get Final Fantasy 5/6 in that PSX Anthology Collection for like 20 dollars.  Square still sends those games to store :S

Thank god to say the truth.  I don't have the hundred hours anymore for level grinding.  I remember when I was playing this, I spent 30 hours on the 3rd disk level grinding, trying to max out my materia to make 3 sets of master materias for everything and then I was like "Why am I doing this?"  So I then I stopped and went to finish the game.  But I think that character booster should be made available in new game plus, not in your first playthrough.
