The Wii's Virtual Console is probably the best version, as the GBA one had gimped music.  900 points is a steal for one of, if not the, best RPG ever made.

 

by the way, my first non-Pokemon RPG was FFIII DS.  It was a baptism of fire, but I loved it and I've played all the other mainline games and a lot of the JRPG genre.

If you're lucky enough they might put the PSX versions on sale again.  Got Final Fantasy 1-9 minus 3 on that fire sale.  Or if you have a PS3 up and running you can get Final Fantasy 5/6 in that Anthology collection for like 20 dollars.  Square still sends those games to store :S
