So if Apple falls off a cliff like Sony did, Microsoft may catch them?

This is what I was about to say.

Anyway, what gives this pad an advantage over all the others? I'm not sure how it works, other than that it uses Windows 8.

how many tablets exist where you cna use it as a proper tablet, apps etc and then as a proper PC's with proper applications and decent power?

Decent power, in that thing? Really?

I just thought there were already tablets that run on Windows, the addition of the keyboard is nice though.

Looks sweet, but that name... urgh

Hey guys, just chillin here with my surface.

Not much, just on my surface.

Hey is that the new surface?

I need to get a surface.

Congrats MS, you just named yourself the Microsoft iPad, because that's what most people will call it.

You can't compete with Apple. End of Story.

Anecdotal evidence can be right-on or can be misleading. That being said, the Pro version has the potential to be a major win for business since it offers tablet conveience and PC functionality. Come up with a way (that is easy and affordable) to output video to projectors for presentations and I will lobby my boss to replace my iPad.

The real issues come down to price and features for business since that will be what eventually drives sales.

It has an HDMI-out port.  Will that do?

Surface looks bad ass. Compare the specs and capabilities of Surface RT to Ipad 3.

Even more gap with Surface pro to Ipad 3.

Yay!!!

So I'm guessing MS ultrabook will be cheaper than a Mac laptop then?

2005:

Just like Xbox cant compete with the Playstation. End of Sto- Ohh wait.

Yay!!!

MS may do well with this, especially considering the easy cross-development between windows and the new surface tablets. Using xbox as the gaming monker is probably a good strategy; MS has done well marketing the xbox brand and it has become instantly recognizable as a synonym for gaming, just as Nintendo and Playstation have done.

One must also consider that Apple doesn't have Jobs at the helm and is currently still moving forward on his momentum. Will they be able to adapt to changing markets, with Android going so strong and MS' possibly compelling tablet product?

For naysayers on the xbox brand, you must consider that it wasn't just Sony who stumbled this gen, the 360 had the RROD which didn't do it any favours yet the 360 has been a successful and profitable product.

Didn't read OP, but in direct response to title, Microsoft to fail in first gen of it's tablets?

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

catch apple lol.... the only market they have is the insignificantly new dumbtablet market.... you have close to 1 billion pc running an ms os out there close to 150 to 200 million sold every year... people tend to forget they control 80% or so of the pc os market close to 50% of the server one...... if someone has been playing catch up it's apple not the other way arround... but still they are late on some sub categories... but on the long run pretty sure they'll pull it off....
