Forums - Sony - Has the PS3 actually beat the hackers?

Seems to be no realy big news regarding to "hacking" the PS3 lately, with every step the hackers took Sony seemed to always kepts two ahead of them. Sony got rid of Linux, changed the security many times and god knows what else but it seems ot have worked. The PS3 is not worlwide known to be a "hacked" console.

So point per point who do you think won, the hackers or Sony? And could this be good for the future of the company that they are known to be a company that can actually defend against hackers, I'm sure game developers love this. But what's it mean to the consumers? does it even matter?

by now it seems that the community lost to sony - especially because the hackers were strictly prosecuted by sony. this does not mean the ps3 is secure. i remember reading from a quite famous hacker that he cracked crucial parts in owd 4.x but did not release it because the community always wanted it to play pirated games.
another story are the usb-sticks that *still* allow playing even recent games so to them sony has lost as it looks.
i think with ps3 sony did a lot better than before while nintendo hasn't. the wii was open like a prostitute at a harbor.
the 360 was hacked by very smart people but to play pirated games you have to put a lot of effort in it and risk of getting banned.

What do the hackers lost? While Sony lost their reputation and millions of income..

Who was it that had to give up linux? ;)

for real, had the ps3 been hacked like the xbox360 and wii Sony would have made millions and gain a lot of respect rolf, by the way I am still waiting for that incredible homebrew community that everybody was claiming to be the purpose of the hacks not piracy

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

uhm... the hackers can play most new games and homebrew with their cobra or trueblue usb keys.. and access PSN with f******psn 4.11.... they won.. a long time ago..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Not really.
Hackers (the good ones) have already found several ways to hack the new updated OS time and time again, but they're not releasing it because there is no good reason to do so. (no must have features etc.)
Pirated games can be played with an old OS version. Even the most recent ones that would normally need an OS update. There are also several ways to downgrade your PS3 to the point where you can install a custom firmware.

They're just not creating a new custom firmware so that PSN is safe in case of cheaters.

Haha totally forgot about that one. I thought they discontinued that a while ago.
