Forums - Gaming - Sony: Why Vita gives us an advantage over Wii U

I'm glad Sony's hardware and concepts never suffer from it being "too expensive." Not everyone is a dead broke hooker, and everyone shouldn't suffer because of it. New games are $60 dollars, a console that is the price of 4 new games is rightfully so.

I'm so tired of these past few years, all you read about is price in videogame forums, everything is too expensive then it gets called a flop waiting to happen so might as well not buy it at all.

Gaming is an expensive hobby and it should stay that way, or might as well go play mobile app games on your expensive ipad.

God, you people are dense. There's nothing the wii u van do the ps3/vita combo can't. All you wii fans are really trying hard to down play this, but you can't. At all...

It's very, very easy to downplay this. The consoles and handhelds are sold separately. The Game Boy Advance was much more popular than the GameCube, but still ownership of both devices was limited enough to stunt Nintendo's connectivity efforts in that age. PS3 is only barely more popular than GBA, and Vita hasn't gotten to GameCube levels yet

That's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about the technical side of things.  But why we're on the subject. What is it going to hurt for Ubi (or any game company ) to offer the same support the wii u gets? It wont take much longer, and may only need slight code changes to make the game play work the same on both systems. Wouldn't it help Sony move more vita's? Yes, i think so.  Nothing shown so far can't be done on the vita and ps3 combo, aside from the NFC reader, and who really cares about that?  Any options Sony can give to help sell the vita the better. It really is a fantastic machine that deserves to sell well. If GT5 made it where the vita could be used as your speedometer, tachometer light and button box, it would help push the vita extremely well. After all, these people spend thousands on their set ups, whats another 250?

Also, I can't stand the inaccuracies of IR technology. I had fun with the Wii except in every instance I had to use IR.

Huh?  Of all the complaints about the Wii, the IR pointer is one I rarely hear, and never regarding accuracy.  When properly set up, it is extremely accurate.

Personally, I think the IR pointer was the best feature of the Wii remote, and the best innovation this generation.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

Sure Vita+Ps3/4 has some advantages (still thinking i cant see any except for the raw power one...)
but disadvantages are predominant

I think Sony is just trying to say things to try and make the Wii U fail since it threatens their sales of PS3's and possibly Vita as well.

How about a rear touch pad, damn that was hard.

I guess I can't really accuse you of not actually reading your own question.

But yeah.

Why Wii U gives Nintendo an advantage over Sony: It is bundled with the console, and thus 3rd party devs will be happy to make games using it.

Look at cross-over connectivity things. Even in the case of the GC (Only Nintendo core gamers owned one) - GBA (everyone owned one) developers still didn't want to use it for fear that it would eliminate some of the audience.

Agreed, 100%.  Using the IR pointer in shooters like Prime 3/Trilogy is the single best use of the Wii remote, IMO.  For me, it blows dual analogue out of the water in both accuracy and feeling of movement.

OT:  Well, from the Zelda demo at last year's E3, WiiU can display the full game image in real time on both the tv and the controller screen simultaneously.  While we have yet to see that happening in any of the actual games so far, it's highly unlikely that the PS3/Vita combo can achieve that kind of performance with just the hardware and one game, as evidenced by PSASBR, in which you must have multiple copies of the game for the PS3 and each Vita for cross-platform play.
