Unless Vita becomes the default controller for the PS3/4 (which most likely will never happen), any advantage of a PS3/4+Vita combo is moot.

It's very, very easy to downplay this. The consoles and handhelds are sold separately. The Game Boy Advance was much more popular than the GameCube, but still ownership of both devices was limited enough to stunt Nintendo's connectivity efforts in that age. PS3 is only barely more popular than GBA, and Vita hasn't gotten to GameCube levels yet

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Are you sure? From what I understand, the Vita doesn't have a means by which a motion controller can interact simultaniously with it and the television screen. From the Golf demo, it shows that Wii Remotes can track from both the Wii U controller and the televsion; as the Wii U controller does have a means to be tracked (essentially comes with its own sensor bar). |
With just gyroscopes you can measure angles, but not absolute position in space, this is true. But is it practical to use any motion control else than tilting it with a tablet-like controller? Swinging it like you would do with a wand controller, like a WiiMote or a PS Move, isn't practical or natural at all and the grip on it isn't strong enough to use it that way safely.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. There are a few work arounds using the Move with that and the AR camera on the Vita(instead of IR), but then again why even use the second screen in the first place...even on the Wii U...especially just to show a golfball. There are more practical reasons for that kind of feature and I don't think move controller interaction has anywhere to go with it. The 360 degree visual space is the more important part of all this and can be done on both devices.
Also, I can't stand the inaccuracies of IR technology. I had fun with the Wii except in every instance I had to use IR.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

sure Sony but do you have the games to actually back this up?
I think not...

How about clickable sticks and four shoulder triggers
Oh man that was really hard.

The idea is cool, but the problem is when developers make a PS3 game they don't know if the user has a Vita or not, so I don't think a lot of developers are going to make games that work the same way as the Wii U. Sony might be smart to have a PS3 Vita combo pack that you get $50 off if you buy them together.
How about a rear touch pad, damn that was hard.
Sony seems to forget something. Segmentation of the userbase is never desired, and with move and now with the vita combo they are doing so. How many WiiU users will have the WiiU tablet? Everyone. How many PS3 users will have a Vita? Only several millions, not enough to create a critical mass of users.
It's a good fanboy wars weapon, but just that, I don't think that Sony first party studios should concentrate on creating vita+ps3 combo games, and third party studios won't do so.

I think Sony guy is not keying into the real value and potential of the PS-Vita to allow asymetric game design in connection with PS3.
In terms of content that Wii U could push to the actual gamepad screen... the Wii U will have the clear advantage there having already shown gorgeous stuff running at HD and 60fps on the gamepad with no disernable lag due to proprietary form of wireless HDMI.
The Vita is not as strong as the PS3 and the Wii U is at least a little stronger than the PS3.
Also, as you said being designed for this type of connectivity, the expeirence on Wii U will be more integrated.
