Forums - Gaming - Dead Space needs “around five million” fans to survive

This is what I hate with big publishers. They think big with everything. If it's not big they won't bother. They refuse to scale down the costs and adjust to the natural popularity of a game.

Yeah, Dead Space is pretty much a dead franchise for me now. The E3 demo looked atrocoius. I wonder what the developers think when the publisher forces them to make their love child accessible and mainstream.

Look at Activision who is almost only investing in Call of Duty and Blizzard games and refuse to invest in medium sized games (except for Prototype, but that will most likely soon be dropped).

Unfortunantly Activision is the best model to make mad profit. So bigger publishers like EA and Ubisoft seem to want to follow the same pattern to profit. It is smart if you get a hit, but it is likely to push a lot of consumers away with less choices. Too bad as EA, Ubisoft and Activision-Blizzrad really could make a lot of smaller franchises making profit. Just not as much as having a few megatons. Damning creativity to a few. Unfortunate indeed.

Well, Goodbye Dead Space!

Indeed. Set on a planet, more action oriented, co-op, 1 less fan here. I'll probably give this one a miss, 2 was already to action oriented for my liking. First one was better. I want to crawl around in the dark insides of a malfuntioning space ship, not shoot aliens in the face on a planet with a partner. Leave that to lost planet.

Make this instead http://www.gregbear.com/books/hull.cfm

Dead Space was one of the most epic franchises out there, and now this...

Why won't they just settle for 3 million (like Dead Space 1 has sold over) and keep the series just the way it is, which is the reason those guys bought it in the first place?

It's stunning and saddening how they somehow managed to learn nothing from F3AR.

So only 5 millions seller do profit these days..?

What a load of crap, another shovel full from EA. Yummy.

Dead Space 3 will probably be the last one then.

I'd believe it now.

Maybe they also consider the opportunity-cost.

"Why should we employ a talented studio to make a good game, when they could make Gears Of Duty: Dance Party ? "
