Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo 3DS - The first batch of Digital releases

Fantastic news for people who live on jungles, like me!

We knew that Nintendo planned to release the "majority" of its retail 3DS games digitally on eShop going forward, but a note in an E3 investor presentation from NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime reveals plans to release third-party games digitally as well.

"We've got a massive list of AAA content on the way from all of the biggest names in gaming," Fils-Aime said, "that are all proven franchises, all exclusive to our platform, and all coming to stores both in physical and digital formats in the second half of 2012." Accompanying this statement is a slide featuring confirmed eShop/retail releases New Super Mario Bros. 2, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and Paper Mario: Sticker Star, along with third-party games Kingdom Hearts 3D, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.

Well, except for Scribblenauts - which I plan to get on Wii U - and Epic Mickey, all of those are either must buys (Mario, Paper Mario, Luigi and Kingdom Hearts) or possible buy (Castlevania)
But the best part of the news is the bolded part. Maybe the majority applies to third parties too. I think the last games I'll import for 3DS are going to be Heroes of Ruin and Mario Tennis, all the the others, whenever possible, is going to be digital, baby!

That's is awesome. I don't own a 3DS yet, but plan to soon. This is good news :D

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

I'll most likely will buy NSMB2 or as it will probably be a game that is small in size. It's good that Nintendo is doing this with the 3DS, now the next step is to bring over some of those Japanese games, it would be significantly cheaper to have those games just on the E-Shop and not in retail.

We just need to see pricing now. If it's anything like the pricing of digital versions of games on the PS3, it'll be best to stick to retail versions for me.

Your better off using the Vita as an example since it makes all releases digital as well as retail, PS3 does not, plus it is a handheld like the 3DS.

On the Vita most (Not all, maybe around 80% or so) titles are 10% cheaper if purchased digital.

Could still be cheaper though if you want me to be honest. $5 doesn't replace box art and the ability to resell your titles.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Same price to retail. No point.

theres a maintenance factor too....
the point is you dont have to move long distances to an store, and prices will be more competitive on those countries like AUS or Brazil where prices are crazy high

how large will these files be??? I wouldnt get them digitally ever, but i am curious

^^^
standard games are like 1.5gb
big ones like Revelations are about 3.5gb

Yeah so for a person who wants to buy only digital they should also invest in a 64GB SD card. And thankfully you can copy the files to your PC if you know what you are doing. (They, or someone should made a PC maintenance software for switching out titles.
