Your better off using the Vita as an example since it makes all releases digital as well as retail, PS3 does not, plus it is a handheld like the 3DS.
On the Vita most (Not all, maybe around 80% or so) titles are 10% cheaper if purchased digital.
Could still be cheaper though if you want me to be honest. $5 doesn't replace box art and the ability to resell your titles.
