I mostly wish this violence against women and children trend in the media and books would end.

I dont hate violence or gore itself. What i hate is when they are presented as the only appeal of the game or the context for having them is either cliche, boring or stupid.
i would love to have more colorful adventures and hearth whelming stories tough, i wont deny that.

Look at television today Spartacus and Game of Thrones have extreme gore, violence and even sex and why does movies today think that we want to see a guys ding dong on screen.
Not saying anything bad about the series I love both of them, but for no reason does video games have to be treated as a special case.
Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

The game industry is just a bunch of old men playing at running the world, their vision is augmented, What a shame.
If the violence and gore makes sense to the setting, story and characters like it does perfectly in the God of War games then it's completely fine with me.
Kratos isn't exactly going to pick flowers for the elephant man and try to hug the thing that's trying to kill him, this is set the brutal realm of Greek Mythology and Kratos is the leader of the fearsome Spartan army, once he has a goal to achieve nothing will stop him. The Elephantaur opposed Kratos and therefore deservedly got its head ripped open.

....A moment of silence for the poor elephant man.

The reason why there is so much violence in many games is because they sell very well. People that enjoy those games should be able to buy them. Personally I think that violence should be depicted more ugly and not to be something that's fun, but that's just me. It's a natural cycle though since this has already happened in cinema. Directors like Sam Peckinpah showed the nasty aspects of violence and guys like Quentin Tarantino have showed how "cool" it can be. Now what's the difference between Tarantino and Peckinpah? About 98% of VGCharterz know who Tarantino is and about 2% know Peckinpah. This also shows how out of touch amp316 is with the present, but he is in touch enough to know that people should be able to enjoy God of War if they want to because he isn't a tree hugging hippie.
I think that I'm going to go watch the Wild Bunch now.
P.S. Did I just refer to myself in the third person? Who am I? The Rock or Regis Philbin?

violent and gory games are necessary...kids need toys...
"I think we’re just appealing to an adolescent mindset and calling it mature"
Yes, though I'd like to make an exception for occasions where violence is called for in the name of good storytelling. Because the best part of the Uncharted series for me was seeing Nathan Drake nearly bleeding to death as if he was actually human and not some demigod-like figure genetically engineered by Joss Whedon who was actually attempting to recreate Harrison Ford.

What I saw in The Last of Us demo definitely made me unconfortable, but I want to play that.
I don't mind violence in games but games that are distasteful loose my interest real fast. Most recent example, the Lollipop Chainsaw game with violence, vulgarity, and sexuality and not much gameplay according to review and therefore I have zilch interest.
