Forums - Gaming - Sony gives away PS3 or Vita with VAIO purchase

The X360 deal was to promote Windows 7 adoption regardless of computer manufacturer (including Sony)

So I think there may be a possibility here for someone to buy a Sony laptop and get a X360 from MS AND PS3-or-PSV from Sony

So you thought a few trolling comments from many months back warranted a retaliation thread now? Are you any better than the trolls back then?

I mean, did they create entire threads to "get back" at someone, or to flame Xbox 360?

You kno, pezus, the fact that you keep calling this a retaliation thread (which it isn't because I'm not decrying the deal; I'm celebrating it and even INFORMING people about it) is ridiculous.  Don't paint my motives as something that they aren't.  This was calling out the trolls.  The fact this subject kept being brought up (as other posters have finally acknowledged here) on sales threads to slight MS is simply more evidence of how aggravating this community had become.  I pretty much avoid sales threads now after the flip-flopping on shipped vs sold/overshipping mess that became almost a troll meme for the last 12+ months.

I was hoping for more "yeah, they did do that and would be hypocrites to act differently now" than attacking the messenger.  The message was against those trolls, but some are acting as if it were against the PS3 when there is NOTHING that I have said or posted that have slighted Sony or the PS3.  It's unfortunate when calling out trolls is considered trolling.  Can you actually troll trolls?

I don't think anyone criticized the PC and free 360 deal. The only deal I remember I blasted was the $99 plus two year contract deal.

These deals are not half bad. I wouldn't do it because I build my PCs, but its not bad for someone who'd buy one retail anyways.

Are you stalkin' me???

He's on at least two different sites.  You're on at least two two different sites.  Both site are about gaming.  1 + 1 = ?  Well, at least most of us have the answer so I'll be nice.  It's "2."

Good idea, but I wonder how this will play here.  MANY criticized ANY 360 sales boost by crediting it to the almost identical 360 deal recently.  So now that Sony is doing it, will they criticize them as well?  Or will they come back and admit the 360 offer in the past actually had merit?  Or will the silence be deafening once again?

Sorry if this seemed to have a particular bite too it, but I'm not a fan of hypocrisy and I've seen a ton here.

The problem with this deal is it involves a Sony Viao PC/laptop.  At least with the Microsoft deal you get a good selection of PCs/laptops to choose from.

I generally browse Kotaku (if ever) on my phone as I like their mobile site. Reading comments, I see your username and picture (which is the same on both sites) quite often. You don't really need to 'fight the good fight' here. No regular member cares.

No, the Sony deal is available from Sony directly only, and the Microsoft deal is through select retailers (Dell HP, NewEgg.com, and the Microsoft Store) on select makes/models of PCs/laptops.

If i wanted a vita now, I would have gotten it already. i just got a new laptop anyway so i guess it doesn't matter

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

i might do this, i have to buy a laptop for college.. which would go for more, an unused ps3 or an unused vita?

hard to say, if I had to guess I would say Vita since it's newer and less common. But if this deal is anything like the Xbox deal that Dell had a couple weeks ago, then your free game system would most likely be awarded in the form of a Sony e-gift card, which you would be able to use on most items in the online store, not necessarily restricted to PS3 or PS Vita. If it works the same way as the Xbox deal, you don't have to get a PS, you could use the gift card on whatever you want in the Sony Store (there might be some exceptions or restrictions, but I wouldn't know what they would be).
