Forums - Gaming Discussion - MS will have even less exclusives next gen

Well obviously since many exclusives were only exclusive because the 360 was the first next gen console on the market.

But that's gonna happen again. The Wii U doesn't count.

MS owns more development studios than Nintendo and Sony right now, They probably hired a couple of hundred developers over the past 3 years.

And if MS wants certain games exclusively on their platform, they will get them. Even if they have to pay millions for it. MS can afford it.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Well in case of ZombiU and Rayman Legends it's already possible.

If the 720 launches significantly before the PS4 (or the other way around) then this could happen again.

MS will have plenty of exclusives next gen don't worry. They already have a ton of them right now just you people think Kinect/XBLA/Halo/Forza/Grears/Fable don't count. Microsoft has a lot of first party devs that are gearing for next gen, don't let the end of current gen fool you.

That said, I still believe multiplats are of so high quality that no need to only look for exclusives which have a lot of hype but end up being average in the end. I'd rather have a series like Mass Effect than all PS exclusives. And to me what will be very determinant next gen will be console features. XBLA and XBL and future Kinect integrated APPs on next Xbox will act like as the best exclusive on consoles so... exclusives are getting more and more irrelevant IMO.

The Mass Effect series is no longer a 360 exclusive (and technically, it only was for about six months until the PC version came out).

Exclusives will always be the most important part of a console, because it is primarily for gaming. On top of that, I imagine PSN on the PS4 will rival Xbox Live now that Sony have some experience with it, and will probably still be free. And if they upgrade the PlayStation Eye, it could get close to Kinect levels of accuracy.

My point about Mass Effect was that  eventhough it's a multiplat I consider the series of higher quality than Sony's exclusives. In fact, IPs like COD, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls etc are more relevant than exclusives. People have to remember that exclusives are games and unless they're really great their exclusivity doesn't make them better games.

Microsoft pushes Xbox Live, XBLA because they realise that better features and APPs keep people interrested in their console more than "exclusives" and that is part true for casual gamers. Why change console when you can do pretty much anything regarding media services on this one.

Sony may catch up to MS regarding online, they may also catch up with PSEye2 but it will all depend on how everything is implemented and kept up to date. Xbox's interface from 2005 and the one from 2012 are very different although the hardware is essentially the same. The same cannot be said about the PS3 which got new updates but the interface is almost unchanged which is a good thing for some but in order to convince people to stick with playstation they had to keep online free, make incredibly different exclusive games in drove and lower price year after year. All this cost Sony a lot financially. MS has a different approach. They made the 360 interresting to newcomers in many different ways all that by investing in software.

Next gen, MS will be well positionned with experience and a lot of studios. If you like exclusives, you'll be served I'm certain of that. IMO though, XBLX/XBL/Kinect is the best exclusive MS will have next gen.

Exclusives have something that multiplatforms don't have, they can be used in the fanboy wars. That's why they are overhyped ad nauseam.

This is never going to be the case with ms.

MS owns 21 video game studios, and has to spread their games amongst Mobile, PC and Xbox.

Sony owns 31 and has to split them amongst PS handheld, PS home and Mobile

Nintendo owns 15, spread amongst Handheld and Home consoles. However, the lower number reflects a different naming convention used by Nintendo - Nintendo EAD is counted as a single studio with 500 people spread amongst 6 divisions. Counting seperate divisions as seperate studios is more in line with MS and Sony, in which case Nintendo owns 22 studios.

Quite simply, you have been misinformed. Perhaps whoever you heard that fact off neglected 2nd party studios, in an attempt to make it seem like MS has more studios than the others. Look 'facts' up in the future before repeating them :)

Yeah because Microsoft is totally supporting Windows Phone 7 and PC with their first party studios... NOT. 1 studio for mobile games and 1 for Flight Simulator. That's it. And even the mobile gaming studio made an XBLA game. Nintendo really has to support the 3DS with more than just one team. Sony has the PS Vita and the PS4 next gen.

I said MS owns more studios and it is correct. 2nd party is not owned my friend so it is ignored.
