Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Has 8 GB of Internal Storage

this is really good... 8Gb is much more than what they have done before.

8Gb of storage is pretty crappy. I can't imagine many people will want to shove in an external HDD just to download a few demos and purchase the odd game from the online store. Why didn't they have a low-end non-proprietary laptop HDD? For most people it'd be enough space and if people (like a number of us forum goers) wanted more, they could have the option of either external or a new internal.

It could potentially put off third-parties from releasing DLC or digital download games for WiiU unless Nintendo can demonstrate a significant number of users have extra storage and are purchasing digitally.

My PS3 is one of the 80GB ones. I'm nowhere close to filling it.

When I bought it, I had the option of the 80GB for the price I paid or a 60GB one for less money. The difference in price between the two models for just 20GB difference in space was laughable compared to the cost of being able to go out and buy a 500GB hard drive for a decent price today.

That is something that has been proven throughout the gen. Massive external hard drives have been consistently more valuable than the difference in price between different console SKUs with slightly different hard drives that have nowhere near the same space.

VGChartz

what a load of crap.

Im surprised its only at 8, considering that theyve made the HD jump.

Theres gonna be a lot more games and demos available for people to download now... As well as all that DLC that 3rd parties like to push out.

We will see how this goes.

i can't see nintendo allowing to store game-content on an external HDD.

first, there might be performance concerns, and second, it would probably be too easy to crack, opening the floodgates for "sharing" your games.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I don't see how Nintendo and third parties can effectively push their full game direct download on day one strategy with such limited space...

You already store games to your external SD card on the 3ds.

Everyone seems to be missing the point that this is the Internal storage, and Nintendo could easily launch the system with an SD card already in it, like many smart phones.

Wait until you find out all of the information before you (inevitably) complain about everything Nintendo does.

This I agree with, my 3ds came with a 2GB SD card, so they could stick something in the box as well, but wait and see is the best approach.
