Forums - Gaming - Which generation was better? The 7th gen (PS3, Wii, 360) or the 6th gen. (PS2, GC, Xbox)

Answer the damn question!

7th gen 65 50.39%

6th gen 64 49.61%

Total:129

This gen for me.
Well I only had an Xbox last gen, but after having played some of the "masterpieces" of last gen on PS2 and Gamecube I didn't feel that missed out on that much.

To me, I'm very conflicted because on one hand I think this generation has physically more games for me to play, but that's only due to the fact that this generation is much longer than the last. The PS2 launched in 2000 and all the 7th gen consoles launched by 2006. Fast forward and here we are, the Xbox 360 having launched in 2005, and we're waiting for Wii U to start the next gen in 2012, so I think the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii have had an unfair advantage in that regard.

On the other hand, I don't really like where this games industry is heading today. We have games that need patching at launch, then they need patches to fix bugs in that patch, and so on and so on. See Skyrim. Then we have day one DLC that could've easily been put on the disc, but publishers purposefully took it out so they could sell it back to us for a quick buck. Not to mention that there have been far fewer new IPs this generation. Bioshock, Portal, Gears of War, and No More Heroes are the only ones that stand out to me, whereas the 6th gen has Call of Duty, Halo, Manhunt, Pikmin, Medal of Honor, Monster Hunter, Kingdom Hearts, Guitar Hero, Eternal Darkness, God of War, Team Ico's games, and Soul Calibur (on the Dreamcast-technically 6th gen too). And that's just off the top of my head.

So I guess to answer the question, I think the 7th gen has more in terms of raw number of games I play, but I'd prefer the 6th gen just for its creativity and lack of developers screwing us over.

Babble babble bitch bitch rebel rebel party party sex sex sex and don't forget the violence. Blah blah blah got your lovey-dovey sad and lonely stick your stupid slogan in. Everybody sing along.

Rather than technology and games I am going to place my judgement on which gen gave me the most pleasure and that's the sixth.

Those days and nights of pure drunken (and stoned) bliss battling with my university housemates will always be remembered fondly. Everytime we meet up we reminisce of those days.

This gen has been great too ( although it is pretty much the same games as last gen rehashed with newer tech) but not as enjoyable as work and other commitments gives me little time to enjoy gaming these days.

This gen, I've adored the variety and quality. Bioshock 1 and 2, Prey, Rayman Origins, Super Meat Boy, Splosion Man, Ms. Splosion Man, Brutal Legend, Limbo, Witcher 2, Mass Effect 2, Condemned, Metro 2033, The Maw, Monday Night Combat, Halo Reach, Halo 3 ODST, Gears of War 1-3, GTAIV, Kameo, Forza Motorsport IV, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, The Darkness, Bulletstorm, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Call of Cthulu, Breath of Death VII, etc. Damn good gen for my money.

Tough choice made easier with the remastered collections. This gen, since I get to play the best of last gen in HD next to plenty of great and unexpected new games including tons of arcade games.
6th gen was nicer to gamers though and had higher highs.

I would have to say the 6th Gen.

I enjoyed all the consoles, especially NGC. And NGC is still my favorite console.

This gen wins by default for me given how completely uninterested I was for most of last gen.

This gen has been a failure compared to the previous, imo only the Wii managed to be more on less on par with Gamecube, Ps3 was much worse compared to Ps2, X360 is better than Xbox mostly because it got more multiplatform titles.

It's split for me. Gamecube was far better than Wii, it is definitely my favourite home console, introducing me to the amazingness and sleepless nights that were spent playing countless hours of Pikmin (1+2), Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, The Sims, Pokemon Colosseum and a huge number of other games. On the other hand, the DS blew the GBA away in practically every possible way (Except Pokemon, Gen. III > Gen. I (R) > Gen. V > Gen. II (R) >>>>>>>>>> Gen. IV).

Overall, I'll go for Gen. 6. Simply because the GameCube was too great to ignore.

This gen is better. The games just seem to be of a higher quality in my opinion. (obvioudly excluding all the shovelware the wii got)
