Forums - Gaming - Why do People prefer to shoot People?

See I'm on the other end of the stick, I RARELY enjoy shooting humans. Humans are boring and lack variety, I can only really get into Sci-Fi shooters :/ COD4 was a "great game" to many, but I just found it drab and boring :(, if a game has vehicular combat then I can play that just fine, because it's more than just humans that you fight. But I find down to earth weapons boring and lame, I find any "realistic" combat game annoying and pointless, and I need flashy!!! Man I miss warhawks ;-;

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people"

Relevant? I think not.

Yes, because people normally walk around with rocket launchers and javelin missles.

"Oh, what's that Harlem. Yep, I'll be rolling down there in my Russian made tank!"

I don't think about killing people when playing such games.

Those games are more about tactics and aiming skill, trying to best the other players...the fact that their characters die doesn't usually cross my mind. And it shouldn't, since they're not really dying, they're just "knocked out" until they respawn.

Same, although I try not to play games as if it's a game. As in, I try to play cautiously, as if my life weren't expendable and I would just respawn if I lost.

Surely if you play it as if it was a game then you would be more concerned that you are killing people. To me the main point is that it is just a game, and your not really killing people, your just destroying a bit of code, or indeed just triggering its death sequence.

FPSs are popular because they're fast and take some skill with the fingers to get good. Action adventure games and RPGs are generally a little more relaxed...and sometimes gamers just want a crazy fast-paced shooter to get some adrenaline pumping.

You can get pretty into a game, and you can put yourself in the character's shoes, getting scared when shot, etc...but again, it's not really about shooting and killing people...it could be water balloon guns and pigs running around, and if the game was good, it'd still be fun.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I hate both of them equally.

Sci-Fi Shooter
1. Metroid
War Shooter
1.Medal of Honor Heroes 2

That's enough shooting games to last me this generation.

You are misunderstanding me.  I am just a cautious gamer. I'm a survivor haha.  I think depending on extra lives is a crutch I shouldn't have to use (I'm talking about single-player).  In multiplayer games that's not really a viable strategy, but I like to survive, to never "lose" in a single-player game.

When I'm playing multiplayer (even in an FPS) I see it as a sport.  When I "kill" an enemy, I see it as me scoring.  When I'm killed, I was scored on.  The goal of the sport is to win.  It's just competition, using a medium of digital guns.

I perfer shooting humans because your avatar is usually a human.

I like games where both sides are the same, you get basically the same equipment etc. Also the noises alien guns make often don't sound menacing.

That's what made me dislike the second part of Perfect Dark. Well that and the sniper gun that could shoot through walls was just soo cheap.

I also perfer games based on history in the battle genres. Gives you more sense of a high pitched war etc.

It's like this: Aliens watch us play video games. I know they do. Now, if they see us killing other aliens, and nothing else, they're going to assume we are a threat. How long do you think we'll last against an invasion with superior alien technology (wich is slightly less advanced than the PS4)? I say kill humans, and keep on killing humans. You don't want to deal with the reprecussions.

I think you may be on to something. There's been a few UFO sightings in Texas in the last two days. Very weird.
