Forums - Gaming - CD Projekt – Pirated games are not lost sales, DRM is “a lot” for legitimate users to put up with

I hate how people try to justify piracy, it makes me sick to my stomach because they're the reason why the gaming industry hates the consumer and will eventually start to make games only playable through online servers.

DRM is harmful to legitimate customers, but I don't understand how he can say a pirated copy is not a lost sale.

Maximum respect for CD Project.

I know for a fact that I myself pirate if I can, because I'd rather get a free game than have to pay for it. With PC games I'd rather spend the money I save on stronger PC hardware instead.

I'm the opposite. I refuse to Pirate, I'll buy it or not at all.
Companies such as Stardock and CD Projekt I'll buy everything they churn out just to support the developers
who don't screw over customers with massive amounts of annoying DRM, vote with your wallet.

sure, pc games don't stop selling like console games. that's what many often forget when they see pc sales of the first weeks, that these games sell much better over the long run (except maybe online-shooter like cod or battlefield). people buy games over steam on special price reduction days and you can buy all these pc games on retail for a few euros after some years (because there are no royalties to pay). i can't find new console games after some years on retail if it's not gran turismo or so.

Bravo, CD Projekt, bravo.

I'll keep on using and loving GOG and appreciate the incredible work these guys are doing on their own titles.

Obviously not all of those 4.5 million pirated Witcher 2's would be translated into real sales if the game couldn't be pirated but at least few hundred thousand copies would, and those are lost sales.

I'm not saying this justifies all forms of DRM, if the DRM is real hassle, but it's fact that piracy causes loss of revenue for gaming.

I know for a fact that I myself pirate if I can, because I'd rather get a free game than have to pay for it. With PC games I'd rather spend the money I save on stronger PC hardware instead.

Also I am tired of CR Project because they have gotten this reputation of being the good guys. Not having DRM works for them but it wouldn't work for everybody. I don't like CD Project, they're full of it.

The fallacy here is you're applying the "I" to everyone.

Well, in that post I started by talking about piracy in general, then to illustrate it I used an example from real life (myself lol).

And I don't like you because you are a dirty pirate
