I think with the current downtrend in software sales with many games posting really dissapointing sales and the fact Halo 4 comes out only 3 days before BLOPS then some previous halo fans will instead buy BLOPS. Its unlikely that people would buy two heavily multiplayer games only 3 days apart, so i think the bulk of that prediction comes from the lower first week sales. |
Why would any Halo fan buy Black Ops 2 over Halo 4 especially given how good Halo 4 looks like. And Battlefield 3 and MW3 proved that you can have two FPS's very near to each other and both still sell more than the previous installment. I'd be extremely surprised if Halo 4 doesn't get to 10 million.

PS3 had a price cut last year. And it had a lot of exclusives that sold over 1mill units. |
I meant 2011 had no momentum carryied over from 2010.
Anyway none of the PS3 exclusives really moved any hardware. I guess I should've mentioned the price cut but that didn't really have too much of an impact.

I mean it's not gonna be pushing consoles. the game will easily break 10 million sold, but I can't see it having a mega huge impact on console sales, as it's a fair assumption that all halo fans already have a 360 (what with 3, reach, ODST, and Wars) |
Highly doubt it.
Halo Reach isn't even at 9m yet. It's highly unlikiely Halo 4 would surpass Halo Reach sales in 2 months.

If it ships more this year it will really bring into the question the claim that PS3 won 2011 & 2012 (if the same thing happens at the end of this year that happened at the end of 2011). |
360 is already at mass market price($199). A price cut won't really do much. At best it will keep sales from dropping to much from 2011.

I thought Halo Reach was at 11 million...and 4 would get higher.

You are on VgChartz, and VgChartz data shows that PS3 was the winner in 2011.
If you don't trust VgChartz data, I suggest you get off this site. There are plenty of other forums out there for you to join.
Here's a direct link to 2011 sales data http://www.vgchartz.com/yearly/2011/Global/
When you see Microsoft or Sony mention sales, they only mention SHIPPED. Since technicall it is a sale to them.
VgChartz doesn't count shipped, they count sales to consumers.

I'd say the price cut for the PS3 did have a pretty good impact (obviously not as much as the 2009 price/slim impact). The price cut is what single-handidly made the PS3 beat the 360 last year.
If Microsoft and Sony do the same bundling as last year (Forza, halo) (Uncharted, GT5) then i believe the PS3 will win even with a 360 price cut (Which would have no affect in the UK similar to a PS3 price cut, as they are already cheaper than the price cut prices) based on the holiday numbers, and the fact PS3 will keep on getting ahead.
PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.
Updated to include all of May. PS3 gained another 96k in it's favor.
Feel free to predict what the gap will be between the PS3 and 360 for the month of June.
