loool, i think most people missed the point from the post and comparison. These next gen pics are probably the least impressive we've seen leading up to a new generation. Of course they're better then the ps3 and current pc games, but what happens when you don't a million lava particles conveniently hovering over your hammer,..... The game won't look too far off what we've come to expect.

I'm excited but in comparison to previous generations, this is more a half step. Like the dreamcast vs gamecube. We're at a point where games are looking like HQ GCI, thats as good as graphics need to be. But without a doubt we will see more impressive things then those UE4 pics, we've haven't even seen it in motion, that could change everything.

If you really think games look like CGI you don't know a lot about graphics, do ya? They are nowhere close to that level.

If he is someone who isn't into the technical details then it's understandable why he thinks it looks close to CGI.

uh... who made that stupid comparision?

I believe it was the devs themselves. However stupid people try and use it to show CGI and game level is close. They aren't. What people don't understand is that that image is the xbox version, the PS3 version and the cgi version...FROM THE XBOX. It isn't some high calibur cgi.

Yet people use it to state game graphics are close to cgi, as though we are nearing avatar levels. Heck I still don't think we've seen a game that even matches Final Fantasy: The spirits within. And that is over 10 years old.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

you just have to watch a ff cutscene or so and you know that playing tha games doesn't look like that^^

Oh, I'm stupid huh?

Just keep being bitter because people aren't as impressed with the screens as you are.

oh wow. way to miss the point and use your stupidity as proof of other people's stupidity.

plus its not like CGI graphics are never developing, CGI = Computer Generated imagery, and since computers are always advancing, its going to advance along with it, CGI from 4 years ago don't look as good as CGI from this year, here is an example , this is a screenshot from a cutscene from FFVIII

this is a screenshot from Advent Children , everyone loved how awesome it looked like back then, and its a CGI movie

This is a screenshot from Versus 13 trailer

notice how a lot better that last one looks? ,it doesn't matter how good the hardware it is running since its a CGI movie, you can run this trailer on a 3DS and it will the same as if you run it on PS3, because its CGI movie.

oh and another thing i want to get off my chest, in comparison Avatar doesn't even look as great as everyone makes it out to be, sure it was 3D in a big screen but compared to CGI we use in games its nothing to be amazed about

I am not impressed with the screens myself and i never care about Unreal Engine at all (i think it looks like shit)

but he is right about the CGI you shown a picture of a game that was 10 years old . and a picture of the developer showing that the graphics of the remake are the same as the graphics of the cutscenes in the game, and even back then Strangers wrath wasn't the best looking game (read the post i posted below) , i think you don't know exactly what CGI is.

That CGI is around 8 years old...from a low-mid budget game. So it is not a proper representation of good CGI

Whatever.

I was just making a point about diminishing returns.

I wasn't calling you stupid lol. I was assuming the fact that you said people who don't know technical details was excluding yourself. Thus why you were using a screenshot that illustrated how someone with no knowledge on the subject would simply take CGI from an old xbox game as being what is now cgi quality.

@PullusPardus. I don't get your point. It seems to be the exact one I made. When we talk about CGI quality we are obviously talking about the quality today (as pezus stated). If we are just taking all cgi ever then we already reached 'CGI quality' . However generally speaking when people say CGI quality graphics I assume they are talking about the first waves of high quality CGI movies we got Toy story, Final fantasy etc or the CGI quality in games this generation (ff13 etc). Of which in-game graphics still aren't really comparable with.

Also that (very low quality) picture from avatar blows away anything we have ever seen in games so not too sure what your point is there.

They obviously are'nt equal to GCI, i meant to say they're approaching CGI. Even then i'm refering to a likeness, just compare the facial models of Elle (last of Us) and the women featured in the diablo 3 trailer. Of course were not close to having a game where every single strang of hair animates individual but such details are reduntant. However its clear there is a massive difference between the quality of particle effects, cloth simulation etc.
