If what you say was true then how come all the Japanese games that come out are rarely in the top 20 considering Japnese people buy Japnese games. How come all hanhelds are not thrivinving in this booming Japanese Economy or why isn't Sony wiping the floor with MS worldwide if this market was so important and PS3 alwasys outsells Xbox it's because they don't matter anymore.

did you just use a source from 2007 and lump the countries into continents?  Even if we use the source it says asia has more sales then all of europe combined, and almost all of those sales were in Japan.  Japan is the most important market for handhelds period.  They are the biggest market for handhelds, and just as important they are the fastest adopting market, with the west lagging around a year behind usually.  They are also willing to spend up to $70 for handheld games, which is still taboo over here.

Ninpie...just look at Nintendo numbers in the West.  Everyone of my kids and their friends have some sort of isomething or tablet. Even my younger ones ask fro a ipod or pad for Christmas and there birthdays, my youngest walks around with a fake toy one pretending that is an iphone instead of playing his DS or 3DS.

 

Maybe that is how you feel and your friend, but obviously is not the case for every kid. You have said yourself many times over, that you have little money and are saving for a Wii U and Animal Crossing and pikmin. Ipads give you thousands of free games and apps and everything else at the touch of a button. Tell me that kids do not want that.

iPad -$500 with many crappy free games that you get bored of in a few days
Wii U - $300-$350. Will have free to play games such as that Ghost Recon game. Retail games will range from $40-$60 and will last your kid months.

If you buy your kid the iPad, he'll always want to have the newest model. Good luck telling him no and him hate you.

Like I said in a previous post, smart people will buy a home console over an iPad. 


I was talking about handdhelds....

I have been continuously abused for suggesting that smartphones and tablets/pads will seriously affect dedicated handheld sales... 

you may aswell continue the tradition...

As long as 3DS and Vita are affordable, they don't have to worry about any tablets or smartphones.

People buy tablets to replace their laptops, not their handheld game consoles.
People buy smartphones to make phonecalls, not to play games or use apps.

Dedicated handheld consoles will always have a place in this industry. Will sales be affected by other alternatives? Of course.
But in the end if a handheld ends up a failure, it would be because of bad marketing and lack of games, not because of the iPad.

^Agree in some length, but it's not an awful device.

Vita is doing horribe in Japan, even worse than the 3DS. I have a feeling someone might bring up the 3DS' launch, but you can't because the launch are so different and the sales numbers are too low for the Vita. At this point of time Vita is reaching at point 3DS hasn't reached until the price cut was announced, which was nearly six months after launch. It was doing around 20k on average before. Lowest point was around 4k, week before price cut.

Right now it's five months, or nearly since it offically launch Dec. 17th, and it's doing this.

Did you not read the Argument it all started with Europe vs. Japan nothing more nothing less, But once again people let their stupidity shine through the internet. Everything keeps on getting worse...

I wonder if the 3DS can hold on to top spot WW until August, but I doubt it. Then we'll be seeing weeks of 400+k in August, a rarity for that time of year!

Now I ask the question- when/if will we see Vita below 5k JP/55k WW? Will it happen? I thought a new colour was released this week, but it didn't do anything...
