I'm always impressed at Nintendo lately. They have so many titles in that top, i can only expect they will make a load of money, even if the 3DS is still sold at a loss.

And the scary thing is that theres more coming, what a masterful plan they had for this year. I just dont see Sony having the kind of resources to do the same with the vita and release a hit every month next year.

I still think the Vita is dead at arrival in Japan. Actually, even a multi-platform release of MH4 probably wouldnt save it at this point, and i dont see why capcom would even release it when the installed base is under 1 million.

Wasnt it about 5 months in that the 3DS price cut came? Can Sony make the Vita rebound with a massive price-cut when they are in such a dire financial situation. Its hard to believe the Vita stands a chance. It might be a big risk to buy one at this point and risk have an expensive brick laying around with nothing to play on it.

I still think Sony would be better off keeping the PSP support and ditching the Vita. The Vita was too premature for the market, they should keep up with the PSP and relaunch the Vita as PSP2 in a couple of years at a much lower price.

It is true in America as well. Ipads, pods, and phones and any other type of tablet such as kindle, galaxy and Nook are pushing through. Kids these days could give a crap about Mario. They did not grow up with him. All they know is that they cannot afford a 40 dollar mario game. What they can afford and do more with are free apps, facetime, free phone time and texting with the pod, free, free, free. Kids want that, because then they do not have to think about going out and buying games or having their parents do it for them. Now even if they want something that cost money the lazy parent just says do not spend over 20 bucks today and leaves the credit card.

Future generations of consoles will only get worse unless something is done.

Ryan... a lot of kids still love Mario and still grow up with him. Even the Preppy people I hand around sometimes know what Mario is! One girl loves Mario Kart. She also played SSBB before and she adores her Wii. I never thought I would witness her say she like Mario. Another is in love with Pokemon... yet never talks about it because it would ruin her "image." I'm sorry, but you are wrong. (In a sense.)

Ninpie...just look at Nintendo numbers in the West.  Everyone of my kids and their friends have some sort of isomething or tablet. Even my younger ones ask fro a ipod or pad for Christmas and there birthdays, my youngest walks around with a fake toy one pretending that is an iphone instead of playing his DS or 3DS.

Maybe that is how you feel and your friend, but obviously is not the case for every kid. You have said yourself many times over, that you have little money and are saving for a Wii U and Animal Crossing and pikmin. Ipads give you thousands of free games and apps and everything else at the touch of a button. Tell me that kids do not want that.

I already have an iPod Touch and a MacBook... that is enough Apple for me. A lot of kids (like me) get spoiled from their Parents/GrandParents so they have more than one thing to play. Like I do. A TON of kids have an iPod Touch but a TON of kids also have a DS. The 3DS will turn out just the same, possibly even better.

It's true that kids/teens want Apple things and Tablets and stuff, but Nintendo is still very popular with people, always will be.

Any reason why the DS is practically dead in Japan with consumers moving to the fast growing 3DS, but not in US/Europe?

I mean I know the Japanese get the best deal with the 3DS at the moment but it is such a significant difference, 3DS is x35~40 the DS sales in JP but in the US it wasn't even x2 the DS sales.

What gives?

apple.

I don't know what you see in the UK but i've gone from seeing every kid with a gaming system in public playing a DS to now a ~60/40 split in favor of iTouch/IPad.

yep.

and kids want an ipod touch or an ipad fro christmas not a handheld... xmas 2012 will be even more massive for ipads.

you know it.  i know it.  ~3 others on this site know it.  but it will take the complete bankrupcy of sony for and a massive GenOverGen contraction for nintendo before anyone else accepts the trends.  oh the power of wishful thinking...  i might be a fanboy but that doesn't make me stupid.

I dont understand why people cant see what is happening around them and in front of their very eyes...  When PS2 and Wii were all the rage (especiialy at xmas time) it was obvious to everyone... its the same with ipads now.  They are the must have next and current big thing.  the iPad will wipe ther floor with everything this xmas.

Of course it will. It's an Apple product.

What does that have to do with anything? iPad is no competitor to home consoles. Gaming experiences are completely different.

Anyway, smart people will buy a home console over an iPad. Why?

-It will last 5+ years unlike an iPad which will become outdated in the next year
-It is cheaper. Almost 50%.

That alone should be reason enough.

iPad -$500 with many crappy free games that you get bored of in a few days
Wii U - $300-$350. Will have free to play games such as that Ghost Recon game. Retail games will range from $40-$60 and will last your kid months.

If you buy your kid the iPad, he'll always want to have the newest model. Good luck telling him no and him hate you.

Like I said in a previous post, smart people will buy a home console over an iPad.

It's only Japan they no longer matter in the gaming Space, Yes Apple has it's foot in all electronic sales but it's not a dedicated gaming machine.

ROFL so the second largest games market and the largest handhold market doesn't matter, thanks for the laugh.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever read are you completly forgeting about USA and Europe or can you not count and as far as handhelds are concerned unless your Nintendo or a Phone  your completly irrelevent. If what you say was true then how come all the Japanese games that come out are rarely in the top 20 considering Japnese people buy Japnese games. How come all hanhelds are not thrivinving in this booming Japanese Economy or why isn't Sony wiping the floor with MS worldwide if this market was so important and PS3 alwasys outsells Xbox it's because they don't matter anymore.

Fact is most handheld games come from Japan nowadays.

To not have japan is to have a reduced library of games.

Big 3 Video games revenue for 2011 .

1:USA:$17 billion

2:Japan:$10 billion

3:UK:$4.1 billion

Without the Japanese market the PS3 would be behind the Xbox by 10 million rather than the 3.5 million japan is Sonys strongest market share wise, and if you didn't already know the 3DS is now the fastest selling system ever.
