Oh! This just reminded me of another one. When I was younger, someone who lived nearby stole my Gold, Silver, and Yellow pokemon versions. He eventually felt bad about it and gave them all back, but all the data was gone by then (I had a couple level 100s in Gold and a level 100 Pikachu in Yellow). :(
I actually did work my way back through Gold and Yellow eventually, but it still sucked.

My 64 MB GC memory card melted due to Wii Connect 24 heat near the end of 2008. Fortunately i had everything from early 2005 and before saved on PC, which meant i only needed to replace Star Fox Assault, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Oh, and Super Mario Strikers.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
Dark Cloud, final boss fight, 5+ hours of unsaved gameplay. Cue historic blackout of 2003. Never finished the game.

Ive lost the save data for every single 3D mario game except for SMG1 (which i havent played), i dont know why but 3D Mario hates me.
I played threw Nfs most wanted about 3 times. On the fourth time was going to do 100% of it, got to 98% 3 races left, memory card corrupt.
I then punched my control and walked out the room.

I KNOOOWWW! O_O I thought my Mother was a loner... except for my Dad, well... I guess you could say he left. 
I'm just FREAKING OUT now! 
When switching out my ps3's hard drive, I lost some stuff. Never had to deal with this with games I really put effort into. If I ever lost my chrono Trigger data or my MAG data I would be very very angry though.
