Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft to bring full Internet Explorer browsing to Xbox 360!

Microsoft is currently testing a modified version of Internet Explorer 9 on its Xbox 360 console, according to our sources. The Xbox 360 currently includes Bing voice search, but it's limited to media results. Microsoft's new Internet Explorer browser for Xbox will expand on this functionality to open up a full browser for the console. We are told that the browser will let Xbox users surf all parts of the web straight from their living rooms.

Microsoft has also integrated Kinect gestures and voice control heavily into the experience, allowing Xbox owners to quickly search using the existing Bing functionality and pull up relevant web pages. Kinect support is not mandatory according to our sources, but the browser is said to be tuned for Kinect usage. There's no word on a launch date for Internet Explorer on Xbox, but with E3 on the horizon we'd expect to hear the official details from Microsoft in a matter of weeks.

not sure if this is a good or a bad thing...

sadly explorer sucks major ass so this isn't good news at all...

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

geeez finally. One of the few important missing features IMO.
I just hope it's better implemented than Sony's browser, because that was very slow (I heard it got better though lately ?) but still useful.

It's about time. The Dreamcast came with a browser on launch day. At this point in time if a device connects to the web it should have full access to the web.

I just hope that it's for XBL Silver users and you can use Netflix and Hulu without having to buy XBL Gold. I have no problem paying for the best online gaming service, but nobody should have to pay to use their already paid for Netflix subscription, or to use the free Hulu service like you can with a laptop or a media TV.

Well I'm still going to use Firefox on my desktop PC and notebook in the future, but I've heard that they improved IE a lot during the last two versions.

Have you used it lately? IE 9 is very fast, displays pages without error, and doesn't crash. The only downside to IE 9 is it lacks the huge library of plugins that Firefox has. I still use Firefox, but IE 9 is no IE 5.

@DanneSandin, IE9 is great! you must have an old version like IE6 lulz

Very important feature for the xbox! I've been waiting for this for ages.

I thought they were waiting for the 720, considering it took them soo long..better late than never though!

I really hope that IE9 is better than the previous versions, but I've always had problem with it - that's why I only do Firefox (but I don't know if I like the latest version thu)...

That's something I can do on my Wii.

The announcement makes it sound like it is something special when in fact it is something surprising that it has not been done before -- since both system makers without their own browser brand -- have had it for years.

Still, a win for those with Xbox 360s.
