Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 10 million sellers

This year so far GT5 average sales per week has been around 28k. With 36 weeks left and considiring in holydays it will sell way more then 28k per week. But lets say it will average around 28k for the rest of the year, thats will put GT5 around 8.45mil.

Sales will slow a lot during the summer months. Last year's "huge holidays" saw Gran Turismo 5 drop below even the top 100 list in some weeks of november and december, and over October and November it never got in the top 30 despite that only requiring 30k in october and 60-70k in november. It's sales didn't pick up at all during the last holidays and thats why it only managed to sell 1mil in 10months after feburary despite selling 700k in the first 2 months of last year.

GT5 will have 4 months of sales well below 28k as sales are always much lower May to September compared to January to May. In october and november it might manage that 28k weekly and a tad more, and december sales won't be able to negate 4 months of lower sales, especially if last year it was in 80th place to below 100

To sum it all up. Last year GT5 sold 1.1mil in the last 10months of the year. It's not going to be able to sell the same amount in the last 8 months of this year. You are underestimating how much sales drop over the summer, and overestimating holiday sales for old games. The game may very well get up to 8.5mil, but that is only possible if vgchartz adjusts sales up.

jeez, I did not realize it dropped so hard right after march. Just wondering how did you access numbers below the top 30, or did you just subtract total sales ever week in which case if there was any adjustments last year(was there?), those sales might have been changed. I guess we will just wait and see how well it holds up over the summer. If it doesn't drop signicantly, then I will be proven wrong.

I have a sheet with the first 51 weeks with some adjustments but not all in the later of the year. The problem is the last adjustment I see in GT5 sales was down 300k... so the number could be less or more that I showed to you.

The GT5 sales just became god after the Platinum Edition launch in Europe... October I guess... and the price cut in US.

Edit - I found one week in TOP30.

Week 42 - 10th Sep 2011: 22,925 / 6,497,518

My sheet shows for week 42...

Week 42: 22,098 / 6,483,962

So my number is not so off... the diff in week sales and lifetime sales is so little... VGC ajusted GT5 up but just 15k between 42 weeks (less than 500 units per week).
