Forums - PC Discussion - Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 announced, $1000 bucks.

Charlie from S|A's informal opinion on this (remember he correctly predicted Fermi would yield badly and that Kepler would beat AMD in every area):

"I wonder if they will make enough to pay for the tooling on that aluminum body. My guess is no."

"Given the 915MHz and 150W numbers, I would expect these parts to be slightly harder to bin than normal ones, but not much. That said, they can't make 680s"

So if you believe him then this card is a pure halo part, not intended to be available ever or sell enough to make back the R&D cost.

wooo 1,000 damn

man I wash I was a billionaire so I could put 2 of these in a machine, quad SLI lol

Just for benchmarking of course so I could brag, as quad SLI actually scales negatively in many games...

My 560 ti will do me until 760s launch and come down a bit then I will sell my card and upgrade, as long as their are any games I want that I can't max at 1080p at playable framerates anyway. Reset looks like it might be one, hopefully Doom 4 will push things, The next CDProject game will likely be a monster, Metro LL should be a monster, and whatever Avalanche Studios is working on should push things if Just Cause 2 is anything to go by...

My very outdated 480 is still eating up whatever I throw at it, within reason, so I can probably wait another year or two. Or SLI it with another 480.

On the nvidia page they do have some quad sli benchmarks. (comparing 1 x 690 vs 2 x 690)

Naturally they used the 4 games that they managed to scale with 4 GPUs

they also seem to have a new profile for BF3

Who would bother playing at 1080P resolution when running Quad Sli? SLi is probably overkill for that resolution as one card would do just fine.

You need to bump up the resolution to see the advantages of Sli/CFX.

true but you still don't expect to have a negative gain by adding cards unless there is a problem, and currently there is only one quad SLI 680 review as it's a feature virtually no one uses.
