when did i say it wasnt useful? people dont care about combining the two.. Apple make the iPad. so the ipad wins over anything anyone else comes up with. unless apple combines the two (they wont) it wont take off. Like the fact the tablet market was beyond dead. then apple released a tablet and now its rediculously massive. i never said the untrabook was usless... im guessing you didnt mean to quote me |
Sorry, I guess I was a bit confused. To me, people will care if it has the funcitonality and use. Your second post clarifies that you mean people only care if it's by Apple.
I disagree. You're discrediting Apple too much in a way. I'm not sure about the iPod, but they really did a great job with the iPhone and iPad and while I'm sure somebody could bring up a tablet or smartphone that came out before Apple's, I'm sure it wasn't as ergonimical and user friendly as Apple's.
For all people talk about innovation, to me the defining feature of Apple's product is easy to use. They're extremely simple and intuitive (ergonomic). And I guess... as dumb as it sounds, good technology products are products that simply make sense.
There's no reason to have a tablet in my opinion. It's essentially a dumbed down laptop. But it DOES have a huge advantage in certain scenarios where you can use it in positions you can't with a laptop, and you have a really easy to use controls with touch (depending on what you want to do). But the value really isn't enough to justify it as a standalone product. As a hybrid, you essentially have everything wrapped up into one. It makes sense to combine the two products.

So you buy Apple products simply because of the brand? Or because of what the brand signals?

It's funny that anyone would compare the ultra book segment with tablets considering that Apple essentially created the ultra book market with the MacBook Air back in January 2008.
And while I'm sure someone's going to feel obligated to point out some non Apple laptop with no optical drive and SSD standard that predates the MBA, no one remembers it because it took Apple to make the MBA a useful replacement laptop in a lightweight package that is now at the head of a thriving niche that is outgrowing the standard laptop market. Apple themselves sell more MBAs than MBPs or MBs.
Anyone who's actually been paying attention to what Apple has been doing in the R&D area is already aware that Apple continues to lead the iOS and OSX towards convergence. In other words, it may be sooner than later that the public sees a MBA with what will essentially be an iPad built into the retina display. Already seeing convergence between the MBP and MBA lines as the upcoming redesigned MBP will probably ship with without an optical drive standard and will almost certainly ship with SSD standard.
it's simple, it can be the best product on this planet, it won't be successful until apple will release this as ipad 4 or ipad 5 (or whatever these names are i have no clue about airpad and what the guy above me is talking about)

At home that might result in punching. Hopefully things all work out. Also, they must be getting paid by how many times they say App. App must be the new word....or the old word that Microsoft is just starting to use in such excess that it becomes sickening to hear it. |
Of course it won't be like that once the ultrabook actually comes out.
OT: Of course. The only reason I can see anyone buying normal tablet over a ultrabook tablet hybrid is because you want to save money by getting a cheaper tablet.
This isn't even new. Asus has had Transformer tablets that convert into laptops for well over a year now, and the series is not only currently considered the best tablets out there, but also are priced cheaper than iPads and are fairly popular.
Why are there so many people in this thread that seemingly don't even know about them?
