RolStoppable said:As for the cheese, this thread here should have made it clear enough that different people have different definitions of what constitutes cheese and you are in the minority. Since so many people don't see a problem with the style of the NSMB2 graphics, it's not unreasonable to suggest that Nintendo's developers don't see a problem either (such as "the spiders that lack detail HARDCORE").

For this part though, you have to admit that we are a forum of gamers and market analysis hobbyists. Some of us are graphically and artistically inclined, but the people we're talking about (at the studio) are professionals in that department. I assume it shouldn't take too long to spot lackluster detail. imho

@point 3. I was really just looking for like-minded individuals. I could have made it more everyone-friendly, but  I also expect people from diverging PoVs to ask first, judge second, as much as possible (and I know, trust me, I know that's a big one to ask, especially on an internet forum - but I know you above all else are capable of it).

The graphics on a game matter about as much as the paintjob on a house. It comes last and doesn't mean squat if the structure isn't there. what matters is the foundation, the framework, the architecture, the insulation, and what's inside. Once all of that is satisfied, THEN you can worry about how it looks.

Same applies for games. a nice paintjob can help elevate a game to higher levels, but what I see here is just selfish entitlement because the graphics aren't perfect....from a guy who APPARENTLY has admitted to not caring much for the mario series because it hasn't changed much, and is for some reason attacking the graphics.

Sorry, the graphics vs gameplay argument has been one of the things I've been passionate about for decades now, I was sick of it when I was 8, and I'm sick of it now, which is why I haven't bothered getting into a heavy debate; it's easier to just come in and laugh at those who are acting indignant over graphics when history shows that the gameplay and content will likely be fantastic.

thats all well and good, but why not have both???

@Runa

Okay, I'll just start by saying you really don't know me very well. You can ask anybody on here that does (Rol, Ninpie, Spurge, Mr Khan), I very rarely talk about graphics on this forum. This is the first time I actually do.

Because I wanted to be clear, I made it absolutely black on white, and made it a mandatory read for this thread, it goes as follows and is very simple:

"I always put gameplay before presentation, but there is an exception to the rule, and anyone genuinely interested in this thread, I'm making it mandatory for you to read this:

The exception to the rule is that when presentation is so bad in my eyes that it deters me from playing, that's where I find issue. For example, you can say Punch Out!! Wii had reasonable graphics and good gameplay, but whenever I think of turning it on, I am repulsed by the idea of having to listen to the god-aweful voice acting and wacked out caricatures.

That's where the nay-sayers are blocking. They don't understand that it's the exception and not the rule. If they took a second to listen to me and ask genuine question and consider the answers, they would understand this basic concept, that it's the exception and not the rule. Hence why they call me graphics whore (Runa) or excuse maker (Rol)."

If you have a super-solid house, but horrible indoor decoration, horrible paint and it just looks aweful (let's just say hypothetically for the sake of understanding), then is it a house you want to live in? Be honest now.

IMPORTANT NOTE BELOW:

The post above makes me doubt that you're actually paying attention to what's being said in here, and passing judgement regardless despite how interested and passionate you are about the subject.

Anybody else find the NSMB art style to be somewhat bland? I liked the style used for the 2D sections at the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy 2 a lot more.

Though a different skin won't have an impact on the fun factor of the game.

Video games are attractions. So you would have to change the bolded in your analogy into something thats purpose is to attract customers (a theme park ride or somethin? I dont know)
