Comment: Retro, warp pipes comming off the side reminiscent of super mario bros 3. ? blocs. GIANT WORLD??? All in all more retro. GOOD

Pic 2:

A work of art. I've said enough. For those who need more expliciteness... that means GOOD.

Pic 3:

You get to play with yoshi (I new that already, spoiler already ruined). Explosions, details on the boss model, difficulty level increased from SMG (bullet bills). GOOD.

Pic 3:

Bright and Matte at the same time, Yoshi can get star power or booster power. Flying goombas in the background. Matte/foggy background, a little darker themed. GOOD.

^The big difference that you didn't see, your blind spot basically, is that SMG was already brimming with detail when it came out. It didn't have that much room for improvement and SMG2 seems to build on top of that rich depth even more, how can I complain?

The same can't be said about NSMB. From there, your post continues to crumble at its base. Nice try though.

No, it's already enough to drive the point home.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 uses a lot of the assets of the previous game and has no notable improvements in terms of texture quality and special effects. If you were to mix screenshots of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, a lot of people wouldn't be able to tell which pictures are from which game. This includes people who have played both games. Essentially, Nintendo is selling you the same game twice.

The enthusiasm in your post is plain obvious. What it tells me is that you wanted to be excited about SMG2. LIkewise, your reaction to the NSMB2 screenshots tells me that you did not want to be excited about the game. That is the underlying difference between SMG2 and NSMB2.

You never wanted NSMB2 in the first place. I've said it before that this is a fake topic. You didn't genuinely want a new Super Mario Bros. game, but you started this thread pretending that you did.

I have to admit that I am envious that a troll topic of yours can fly past the 300 posts mark within a day while mine more often than not don't even reach 100 posts.

EDIT: This should also answer how and why people can be excited about NSMB2 at this point, based on the same four screenshots that you dislike.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is on the same system/gen though. If E3 comes and the next WiiU 3d mario looks almost the same, people would be pissed.

That's a whole nother level of scope, isn't it? You are kidding yourself if you believe that there wasn't much room for improvement in SMG2.

Wow, need we same more? My PoV must've been flawed because, you're absolutely right, SMG2 could have had more detail injected after you pointed that out. Fair, SMG despite the planetoid framework and setting (which they can't change easily for galaxy), could have used a bit more detail. You're right, I didn't see it that way.

But even so, I can see they did an already good job, it's not horrible, it just isn't GREAT! I can't say the same about NSMB2.

NSMB2 looks without a doubt better than NSMB. Don't do drugs and you will see cleanly.

Otherwise, it's time you get some glasses. If you already have some, you need a new pair.

I didn't do them and I see it clearly now! Thanks!

^You're partially right, partially wrong. The thing you don't know about me is that I'm a huge fan of classic games. I play them much more than I play modern games, with Galaxy, Prime, TP and SS having been the exception for me this gen.

I didn't like Epic Yarn, I didn't like DKR, I didn't like Other-M (and I own it). So what does that tell you, that I'm a troll??

Okay, you're right that I didn't really realize the extent of the possibilities of Nintendo going back and truly reviving the series, but YOU're the one who pointed that out to me. When you made me realize it, I figured "True, Zelda, Metroid and Mario should be properly remade in 2D", because there's a market for that.

I new NSMB would sell like crazy, and I was very excited for it. I actually bought my DS lite with it (but you don't know that). In fact you know very little of me, despite the time I've spent here, and most of all you know little about the time I've spent with classic games. That's where this thing got personal, you tried to label me a troll.

But sir, you missed the mark.

I don't think you're a troll, I just think you're entirely off the mark when it comes to the importance of graphics in videogames.  The fact that this thread is as big as it is happens to be a testament to the power of graphics whores.

It's perfectly okay to like good graphics and dislike poor graphics, but when you put too much emphasis on the importance of graphics to the point you have a 35 page thread with a poll complaining about the perfectly fine and charming graphics in a game not being enough..well..that saddens me.  Truly BAD graphics can ruin a game, Great graphics can exhalt a game, but mid-range graphics do nothing either way. Acting like a game is crap or a developer isn't doing enough to make a game awesome becuase its GRAPHICS aren't top-of-the-line, innovative, or groundbreaking is not trolling, but it's pretty insulting to people who play and enjoy games becuase of the gameplay or how fun they are.

sad.

It's hard to complain too much though because NSMB2 is probably going to play great, and it could be a nice sized jump from NSMB Wii, which was a very good step above the original NSMB.

But Nintendo really has all angles covered here. If you like "epic", more graphically wowwing Mario platformers -- well Nintendo has the Mario Galaxy series, and it's pretty much all but confirmed that they're working on a new 3D Mario for the Wii U.

If you like 2D platformers with pretty graphics, Nintendo does make the DKC series (which will no doubt return again), the Wario Land platformers, and Kirby too. Good Feel is probably working on a new Yoshi game as we speak.

NSMB is meant to be a throw-back to the basic 8-bit style of the original Mario games that a lot of people grew up with. That is the style they associate with Mario, not Yoshi's Island.

If you don't like NSMB2, you'll probably have NSMB Mii in a few months, which may not have the graphics you want but will surely look better in HD + more visual effects. And if that doesn't make you happy just wait a few more months and you'll probably have Mario Universe (or whatever) on Wii U. And Paper Mario in between.

Like, lol, life's pretty good right now if you like Mario and/or Nintendo platformers in general. If NSMB was the *only* Mario platformer that Nintendo was making, then yeah, I'd be upset. But as is ... kinda hard to get too worked up about it.

What it tells me is that you don't really know what you want yourself, if you are telling the truth here. Your value metrics for games just seem to be so inconsistent. You say you like classic games, but then you should be fine with good graphics.

You see, you are being called things like "graphics whore" in this thread, because good graphics (those of NSMB2) are not good enough for you. That's how graphic whores are identified; these people even speak out against games with great gameplay, simply because the graphics aren't the most amazing thing in the world. Other people look at the NSMB2 screenshots and think "It's about damn time.", but you make a fuss about it, because it doesn't have state-of-the-art graphics.

If you like classic games and have witnessed the Metroid: Other M debacle (one of the bestlooking Wii games), then what you should be looking for are the things that made classic games great; and these things weren't graphics. Otherwise MOM would have been a great game instead of something that was spitting on the legacy of the Metroid series.

I am telling the truth, and now that you've put yourself in the right mindframe you are starting to find answers...

When you asked me about SMG2, I told you it was good, and I was happy about it. When you showed me XB:C, I said it was GREAT, and I know you agree. I would've been a graphics whore if, after you showing me the vid, I would've said: "It's true, SMG2 is crap", and you know that's not what I said. But I did say I was underwhelmed by NSMB2. I know you understand what I mean by this. Also, I even explained why I was underwhelmed, and it was due to 1) A lack of effort and 2) A lack of creativity (cheesiness).

" You say you like classic games, but then you should be fine with good graphics."
But I do like classic games, and I am fine with good graphics. All the classics have good graphics in my eyes. The new stuff (NSMB2, Punch Out!! Wii) mostly doesn't, it lacks quality in my eyes.

"and these things weren't graphics."

I disagree Rol. I don't know when you started gaming, but to me, the graphics for all my favorite NES games appeal to me. I even never owned Kirby's dreamland on gameboy and DL'd it on my 3DS and thoroughly enjoyed the graphics. That's why I'm NOT a graphics whore, I appreciate presentation in and of itself, irrespective of platform...

Gameplay is important, actually it's fundamental. But when a game has bad presentation, it can completely turn me off. Hence why presentation is paramount for me as well. I don't know why you don't understand this...

Ultimately you will hopefully at the very least SEE my point of view, regardless of whether you agree with it or not. That is my wish. My wish isn't that you agree with me, my wish is simply that you understand where I'm coming from.

Wow, that does look very good. Nintendo does need to step it up. It looks only a little better than the freaking DS Ver.!
