Forums - Gaming - Valve's Handbook for new employees

seem like someone copied the handbook and made a pdf, found the link on "pc games" a huge german gaming magazine and i think it's awesome and a great read:

That's pretty damn awesome.

Ponies—The animals most beloved by those away from their computers,
and most despised by people who prefer to hear jokes just once.

And we know that Gabe watches it.

Valve is rather odd then huh?

That sounds... awesome.

I'm amazed they manage to maintain the sheer quality of their products when it all seems so chaotic. It obviously works though!

it's like the chaos system in amazons warehouses, it makes no sense to you but it works perfectly^^ not sure how they call it in english but it's great. (and not sure if amazon has this system everywhere or only in some countries)

To re-iterate the way they work I saw this little article:

Gabe Newell: No One At Valve Met with Tim Cook Last Week:

"We actually, we all sent mail to each other, going, 'Who's Tim Cook meeting with? Is he meeting with you? I'm not meeting with Tim Cook.' So we're... it's one of those rumors that was stated so factually that we were actually confused," he told Seven Day Cooldown.

The down side of having a flat hierachy!

Such a cool company.

Reminds me a bit about the old Disney handbook, although the Disney version looks appealing but is full of dont's

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
