It sounds a level up from emulation. For instance, the article mentions graphical improvements. I don't think this is the standard ZSNES filter type thing, I think this could be a layer implemented for, for example, laying graphics tiles of much higher quality and resolution by bypassing the original hardware blitting. The result, in the end, is an on-the-fly game remake without touching the internal mechanics of the game at all!

also for your information, this has been in use since 2000, our airlines actually have these nintendo games on the passenger screens, and the controller you use resembles an NES controller, I actually made a thread about 2 years ago when i came back on a loooong trip talking about how I managed to beat A Link To The Past while i was on the plane, I'll find it for you and post it, also i can't find a picture on the internet of the screen, i should have took one myself the last time i was on. (i'll get onboard one the end of may though!). here is the closest pic i can find.

if my memory serves me currectly, the screens have Super Mario, Super Mario Collection (the one with lost levels or something) , F-Zero , Metroid , Zelda 2 , Link To The Past and some others.

This could be quite cool on those long flights I have. The airlines never really have anything in terms of games that get my attention, even the original NES Castlevania would be an awesome platformer to play on a flight.

That said I do carry my DS/3DS on flights, so I don't know how useful this will be for actual gamers.
