Forums - Sales Discussion - UK PS3 sales (Screen Digest)

Screen Digest work with ELSPA and I'm pretty sure they get their UK data from Chart-Track (that's not confirmed, so I'll see if I can get confirmation from them).

PS3 LTD: 754,000

360 HD-DVD drives: 40,000

Screen Digest LTD data through Q3 2007:

360: 1,55M

WII: 1.19M

PS3: 450K

So according to Screen Digest PS3 sold around 300K during the last quarter.

If Screen Digest do actually use Chart-Track data, then Wii sold well over 360K during Q4 2007.

That PS3 figure matches exceedingly well with VGC LTD ... VGC Chart-Track mole confirmed?

Nah, just shows that VGC is very good at what they do

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I think the numbers you say are for November 18 are in fact for earlier, because i remember was a chart-track release about Wii passing 360 a couple of weeks after that, and I'm quite sure Wii did not sell 300k+ in two weeks in November

Yeah, sorry, you're right. Those figures were actually from the 3rd quarter. My bad, will edit the OP. As for 360 passing Wii, Chart-Track released that info on Tuesday December 18, they say Wii sold 100K in the week ending December 1st, "and its total sales have now surpassed those of Microsoft’s Xbox 360". It's unclear if it passed the 360 in the week ending Dec 1st, or the week ending Dec 15 (another mistake by me, Chart-Track weeks end on Saturday, not Sunday) previous to the release. It sounds to me that Wii passed 360 week ending Dec 15th or maybe 8th otherwise they would have probably commented that it occurred during the same week as DS 200K + Wii 100K, but that's just a guess.

If they were reporting figures for the week ending december first, then all other information was in relation to that week, which means Wii passed 360 before December 1st.

So likely only 10K or so undertracked for the UK in 2007, well done VGChartz! But I do think VGChartz has more problems with tracking other European countries.

A good figure for the first 9 months available on the UK market.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

UK:

Console Weekly Total
36,7904,028,377
26,6221,415,096
25,0881,163,789
18,1692,081,681
11,5539,475,362
7,227373,200

This is VGC UK for the end of September, if indeed Screen digest are refering to the end of the 3rd calender quarter, then the numbers I highlighted should be compared to those LTD numbers.
1,415,096  -  1,550,000
1,163,789  -  1,190,000
373,200  -  450,000
This means that back then Wii was pretty much spot on, 360 was undertracked a bit (about 8-9%) and PS3 was undertracked a bit more (about 15%)

however the PS3 number with a more definate time frame (life to date... probably means end of December) is much more inline with the screen digest number.
744,327  -  754,000
(if it means the end of last week)
763,595  -  754,000

I haven't checked your links BKK, but either VGC had undertracked PS3 up to September, but has now come back in line (VGC has 371k PS3s sold over Q4).... or the 450k number is either not from chart track (could be shipped) or else is from a later date.

Also when you said "Wii sold well over 360K during Q4 2007." I think you meant "Wii sold well over 260K MORE than xbox360 during Q4 2007."

@ TWRoO

754,000 consoles is estimated for 2007.

PS3 vs 360 sales

I've sent an email to Screen Digest, but it's the weekend so I doubt I'll hear back before Monday. I'm pretty sure they're Chart-Track numbers as they have access to all the Sales Tracker's data. From one of their reports:

"Data sources

public, used as inputs to Screen Digest
computer modelling, we would especially like
to thank the following:
ChartTrack (UK; +44/208 741 7585;

VUD (Germany; +49/5251 771950;

"754,000 consoles is estimated for 2007."

It says the 7,000 Blu-ray players is estimated, not the PS3 sales. For PS3 it says "about 754,000 consoles" which is too accurate to be an estimate.

The Q3 Wii figure matches well with Chart-Track's announcement a month prior that Wii had passed 1M.
