thats what we used to get... made life so much easier.  and often brought sense where there was madness.

I remember using the HW ones back in the day, but I don't remember the SW ones. The new ones look so pretty Il'l admit much prettier than the previous ones (these seem more comprehensively interpolated, and have a google-finance mini-chart view for the HW trends), but at least we had something.

Come to think of it, it must've taken you a while to populate the graphs for the gen 8 Handheld launch aligned thread! You probably had to go in week by week to fetch the weekly HW sales for all the handhelds, that must've been dreadful.

I mean, this is a top dedicated VG sales site, if not the only real one. Graph tools should be de facto as they were in 2006-2008. It'll come though, I'm sure.

Nice graphs! I thought both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 had increased year over year since launch, didn't realise the 360 declined in '09 compared to '08. Nice yearly increase for the PS3, I said way back that the PS3 would surpass 100 million, still believe that, will surpass the original PlayStation's total in my opinion. Would be a phenomenal achievement to have each of your home consoles surpass the big old 100 million.

love it. thanks for the contribution.

If this can get us all to talk, (and I want to hear you buddies talk!) then it'll have been way worth it. We're here to talk and have fun, in the end.

yes, we need more things to get the community talking again.

i see Sony has mainly only been in decline in JP. with the exception of others, and America's by a bit in 2011., with 360 in others and europe.

The PS3 paliated (domed) in most regions. It kinda declined in the last two years in JP, while in europe it has an upward trend that doesn't seem to be slowing down.

The numbers for home consoles in Europe for 2012 are:

Europe 2012
Xbox 681,490
Wii 488,203
PS3 1,133,689

The PS3 is doing good, but still it's hard to tell how well without weekly analysis, because some seasons really offset the numbers for certain manufacturers more than others.

good point. it didn't matter much considering they were both up by yr.'s end. we'll see.

Charts like that are what use to make this site so great. Kinda ironic that a website called vgchartz stripped most of those features away from us. I hope this shows the team behind the website what the end user really wants.

With next gen around the corner, hopefully we get all these features back and improved so we can assess the data easily and accurately. Great work on the thread btw.

PS360 peaked 2011, but even with the new console generation coming they should sell well for another 4-5 years.

This thread makes me feel all nostalgic

I see a slight decrease this year for PS360, then a sharp decline in 2013 (25-30%), then even sharper 2014 when the new consoles are out (40% seems possible).

However, has this gen done anything usual?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Good job OP!

Thanks guys!

@Conegamer. Yeah, that makes sense tbh. The only exception would be MS capitalizing on the casual market. Other than that, the HD market seems saturated and fatigued, and since they've been sustaining a peculiar trend, I wouldn't be suprised to see backlash in the shape of a very steep curve, kinda like Apple's stock at the moment

Ciao Happydolphin!
Good job, thank you very much for all these graphs.

It's nice to see how the HD twins manage to keep a good amount of sales, while Wii is in total decline.
Wii got a boost at the begininning of the gen, then it reached its peak and now the sales are slowing down.
It did as everyone was expecting (yes, maybe not such a steep decline....), the strange thing in this generation are the PS3 and the 360 that are doing really well, if we consider that they are on the market for 6/7 years.

Thanks HappyDolphin for refreshing my memory, ioi had succeeded in making me forget about the AWESOME graph tools we used to have on this site.
